Why do I have slow file sharing in my home network?

Ok, I just hooked up the Linksys WRT54G router and the transfers are moving along at about 2.7 MB/sec.

Is this a normal speed for transfers on a home network?

This is the speed I get when using both Windows file sharing and FTP.

THANKS!

I'm getting about 1 MB/sec from win2k (on a 9 year old comp - pentium 400 I think) -> winxp when using windows file sharing or sending using msn. Maybe it's cpu limited here lol.

So yeah, I guess it's normal... I'm too lazy to find out why it's not faster.

lol...

of course, the tcp protocol you use is implemented by msft...so *shrugs*. Who knows how well it works on high rates of transfer on a single connection (with unknown conditions).

bottom line is...transfer from hdd to hdd if you need to transfer like > 20 GB 😉 lol.

Or be real patient I guess. 😉

Maybe someone knows the magic button that will make this all work.

Alright, well thanks for all your help (everyone)...I guess it was as simple as changing the router.
