Why do i have a folder called "_vti_cnf" in a bunch of my folders?

Why do i have a folder called "_vti_cnf" in a bunch of my folders?
And it has copies of the files of the folder its in? eh?

It's a microsoft thing. I know MS Front Page even puts a vti_cnf folder on the remote web server as well. Just do a google search for it... it's all over the place. Not really an explanation for it, but it's there.
