I have win98 SE installed on C:\
I rebooted with the wink boot disks, and installed windows 2000 pro w/sp1 to d:\
when I rebooted, I booted directly to win2k, no option for the boot menu
so I figured I'd just install win98 again, so I went to do so, but I kept blue screening
so I ended up having my system reboot on me without the floppy, and it said "hey, I found a registry that'll work, do you want to use it"?
So I agreed with it, and it went to the "first intallation" of win98, i.e. no video drivers, no raid drivers, etc. nothing.
No boot menu again. It said "default=c:\" in the boot.ini file
so I booted up with the win2k cd, and repaired the win2k installation
then I get a beautiful, lovely boot choice menu.
YIPPEE!!
except there are 2 "win2k professional"s listed along with teh win98SE
the top win2k works great, gets me back where I wanted to go in teh first place, the win98SE gets me into...win98 as needed
but taht second win2k choice in teh boot loader menu just reboots the system
er...ah....???? whahappen?
how do I get rid of that 2nd one?
here is my boot.ini file from the c:\:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
d:\="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional"
c:\ = "Microsoft Windows"
(end of file)
so what do I have to delete to get rid of that 2nd instance of win2k in my boot loader menu upon startup?
no, it's not major, but it is quite annoying!
