Why do I always create my own feelings of stress?

If I have something big coming up soon, of course I'll be stressed. But even in instances when I don't have something big coming up in particular, I'll feel nearly equal stress about little things; things that in the presence of something big on the horizon, would not bother me. Or things that are far away.

What's my deal? I never allow myself "time off" psychologically. I'm always worried about something. Sometimes there's really stuff to worry about, sometimes not. But whether or not there's something I really shoudl be worried about, I'll pick something going on in my life and feel nervous/worried/stressed about it.

I have the same problem sometimes, ALOT of people in our society will tell you to take drugs, but I believe that is 100% the wrong thing to do. Just learn to recognize what is happening and tell you body thats its not real what its feeling. Needing drugs to get through the day is a terrible thing IMO because yo will keep needing more and more and end up in a never ending downward cycle. You have to strengthen your will power to be able to overpower your brains irrationalities, not try to mask them with drugs. Thats just an opinion though, I'm sure most people in our society will just tell you to go to a shrink and get some cool drugs instead of actually trying to solve the problem.

Yeah, no thanks on the drugs. It's not such a big problem that I feel it's worth putting chemicals into my body and making me a zombie.

Catastrophic thinking. It's tough to fight with, but there is hope. I've known others who have conquered the most detrimental thought processes.

Same. I have a lot of little minor things that would be great to be medically treated, but one, I don't like the idea of daily medication just to make me 'normal'... that and the Army doesn't like anti-anxiety and ADD drugs. To the point of saying "no commission for you kid!". So dammit, figuring out how to help myself without medical help is extremely tough, and sometimes lets my mind win out as I'll feel its almost worthless to try. I can tell myself every little thing 'wrong' with me, but I have yet to figure out how to actually change anything about myself. Getting really pissed with myself for that reason too, which just compounds with everything already and it seems a rather vicious circular process.

That's my job. I'm gonna be doing that regardless of what kind of mood I'm in. Besides, what do you think is often at least part of my stress? Work. :)

Let P = you

Me = Px100.

Seriously I'm on anti anxiety meds and still use alcohol and other stuff to calm down :(

Though the meds have helped noticeably.

This seems to be a common occurrence. Many people seem to have a place for anxiety, and when its not filled, they find something to fill it. Almost as if being anxious is a crutch or a fulfillment that has to happen to function. I think, they key is to find something else to fill that void. Sounds easier than it really is. I have found that a hobby that is totally absorbing helps to do just that. Something you can focus your entire senses on, like playing guitar or perhaps another instrument. Learning something new that involves your hands (woodworking etc.). You need to focus like a laser on something else, and I don't mean reading a book, it needs to involve your motor skills and senses, a total body involvement. Do you have any passions you want to pursue along these lines?
