Pretty happy with my Tivo S2 DT. A large part of my decision was based on my wife - she doesn't like HTPCs too much and I wanted an "appliance" that didn't require any maintenance. I've been extremely pleased with it so far, looking forward to upgrading to an HD model down the road.

Have had the Dish Network Dual HD DVR for about two years now - never had any issues with it at all. Works like a charm.

If you have optimum then you porbably have the SA8300HD DVR. I also had a tivo back in college and when I moved into my house I got the Cablevision DVR because it was free. I have to say its a big steaming POS compared to the tivo interface.

For example, my wife likes Michael Buble and he's on the tonight show this week. It probably took me about 30 mins to find out what day he was performing using the cablevision dvr while im sure it would have taken only a few mintues with the tivo.

Dude, how could it take you that long? I have the 8300HDC with TW and it took me about 1 minute to do this...

I had to open up the guide then search for shows under "T". Once I found the Tonight Show I had to go look at who was performing. Once I found out it was Thursday night it was easy but it took forver to scroll through all the T's and whatnot.

Oh, I just went and looked on NBC at the time slot that Leno is on and hit info. Then hit the next day button and hit info again. It was about 10 button presses

I have a hardware DVR that isn't a Tivo. I don't feel like paying a monthly fee because I'm capable of looking up the times of the shows I want to record and then setting it up. College kid on a budget, don't need to spend for what is just convenience.

The Scientific Atlanta HD DVR that I got from Comcast seems pretty good to me, and they only charge me $6 a month for the service. I can't complain about that, although I can think of plenty of other things about Comcast to complain about :)

Yes, it does. And the new 722 is even better. They're both fantastic and IMHO quite comparable to TiVo.

Those Dish units are pretty good. I still prefer the tivo but both are much better than your typical cable offering.
