Why do gas station boys top off your tank near flooding?

When you fill up gas tank, even with CC, they like to fill it up to nearest fifty cents, or dollar. I can understand this from management and accountant's point of view, but I don't know why these minimum wage pump boys do it. What motivates these min wage workers to put extra work in topping the tank off?
 
Force of habit? Maybe they think the customer likes it when they do that? Maybe it's just company policy? Is it really a big deal? Will this make the scroll?

No biggie as long as they don't flood it. Just curious why most do it. People working on minimum wage don't really care about customer satisfaction, so something else must be causing them to do it. Maybe someone here who works for/have worked for gas station can tell me something about it.

They probably do it so it's easier to get change back and stuff when you pay with cash. Probably do it even when you pay with a CC cause they're just so used to doing it that way.

On a side note... I haven't been to a full service station in the States in like 9 years now. Don't think they have em in Florida.
 
Hmmmm....gee....did you tell them to fill it up? Maybe you should pump your own gas and save a little bit of your parent's money. Don't want them to go broke you know.
