Why do gas prices go down?

What really puzzles my brain -

Gas Station located next to a highway exit is 10 cents higher than a gas station located a few blocks away that you can easily see from the highway... yet people still buy gas at the more expensive price...

Maybe because 10 cents or 1 whole dollar for 10 gallons isn't that big of a deal.
