I saw it the other day, and for some reason it bothered me enough to make this post... Any ideas?

You didn't know that fat helps keep someone warm? Watch some nature shows about whales and walruses and you'll see.

thats the obvious answer, but there has to be another reason. I couldnt help but think they are trying to be cool (no pun intended) back when I was in school.

I'm ~11% BF and I wear shorts year round. I run the streets all the time in freezing rain and snow.

Any insight into this crazy behavior? Does the coldness just not bother you?

fat people generally have more difficulty keeping warm because their circulation is not as good as healthy people's.

So the whole fat = more warm statement is basically out the window.

Not really. Only when it's bitter, bitter, cold.

Depends on the person. When I was 20 lbs heavier I wasn't as bothered by the cold as I am now. And a buddy of mine, who is about 280, actually emits steam when he sits outdoors, like on bleachers at a football game on a cold day. He wears shorts and a t-shirt year round... in Alaska.

I love how people on ATOT love worrying their little minds about overweight people.

Get a life and worry about yourself not some overweight person....I wonder who has the worse insecurities?

Maybe some people are fat because they metabolize food a lot more efficiently - you eat 2000 calories and need to bundle up to keep warm, they eat 2000 calories and they're more than warm enough with shorts on.

We are tired from carrying all our extra fatness around.

I wear shorts all year around regardless of temperature and I am not fat. I have always done it.

I'm a fatty and shorts ftw! I weigh 185 and am 5'7" and am warm almost all the time (no coat if the temp is above 30*F). And poor circulation, bah! I have awesome circulation

Yeah but, don't you live in TX or someplace down south? Your winters are probably like our summers up here in AK. How cold does it get in your area anyway?

That's waste heat since creating heat is not the intention. Waste is not efficient.
