Why do employers...

Why do employers have coffee and tea free, but charge $1 for a 20 oz bottle of soda? Why not plop up a soda fountain next to the coffee machine?

Because... no clue. I don't care, I only drink the coffee every day because it's free.

probably because soda costs a lot more than coffee and tea. also, the maintenance of a soda fountain is a lot more work and cost than that of a coffee pot or 2.

how many cups of coffee can you get from a small bag of coffee or a few scoops? a good many. same with tea bags. there what, about 100 tea bags in a box?

Someone here has taken it upon himself to buy soda's at Costco and sell them for 50 cents in the kitchen area. (There are 4 vending machines within a 20 second walk) .

I extended the ridiculousness by printing out "Paper towel 10 cents", "Water 75 cents", etc and posting them all over the kitchen.

The soda itself is actually extremely cheap.

We used to have a soda fountain. Had Coke products that hooked up to canisters. Cheap boss took it out because it cost $90 a month in supplies to run.

I make more than that an hour when I'm with a client :|

We have a free Soda Station, coffee, ice etc. Coffee sucks though and the soda needs to be adjusted(too much syrup).

36 pack/$8.16+CRV (lets just say $10)=$8 profit per face. Not a bad deal 🙂

Though at the place my cousin works at, they sell cans for $0.25/ea. But then the company he works for doesn't have a history of screwing employees over.

Hold on while I form a telepathic link with your boss and probe his mind for the necessary information to answer your question.......is there anything else you need to know while I;'m in there?

heh, went by a few companies during a tour of fall river last week that offer their employees basically a free continental breakfast every morning. small operations, but they have eggs, sausage, pancakes, coffee/tea/orange juice - the works.

someone in management mentioned to me that it was a tried and true method of reducing tardiness - they only offer the breakfast in a 30 minute window prior to the start of the regular company-wide shift time, so if you want in - you better be there.

pretty cute idea, and i don't think the employees were complaining.

some people here used to do that. they would buy soda cans and sell them for $.25. i think they stopped it though because people were taking without paying. it was on the honor system of leaving the money in a cup.

Same thing here. The guy "justifies" $0.50 to compensate for the people who don't pay.

Well, I've noticed that you can pay someone $80k/year and not be able to get them to come to the meetings where they are needed. But a $0.50 donut will get them into the door every time.

Same where I work, they have some sort of breakfast every morning for the employees to enjoy before the workday starts. They also pay for every employees' lunch every day. They order in a bunch of food daily, or if you go out, you can expense report it for up to $8....its a great benefit and keeps the employees super-happy!

4 "cooler packs" (25 cans of soda) can be had for $10 when on sale... that's like 10 cents a can... get some.

Around here $2.50 for a 12 pack is about as cheap as it gets for Coke and Pepsi, but that's still not bad.

My employer gives us free soda though, and snacks.
