Why do dying HDD's overheat? What is creating the heat?

Yes, I did misunderstand that line.

But what that page describes is that a sector that doesn't get read properly goes on the pending list until it gets a successful read from it, then once it does that (or you attempt to write to it), then the sector will be reallocated.

Or it hits whatever the drive's CCTL is set to and then it goes on the uncorrectable list.
