Why do dogs spend so much time licking their own balls?

So is there some purpose to dogs doing this?, I don't think any other species exists that spends so much time tending to its own balls.

The only reason you don't do the same thing is that your spine isn't sufficiently flexible, and you know that.

If you consider the amount of time that the world devotes to sex and porn, which could perhaps be said to be, at least for men, "tending to one's own balls," then dogs are seriously slacking in the department of ball stewardship.

Are you serious or joking? That's how dogs clean themselves. If they do it too much there could be something wrong like some skin problem, but most likely the dog is just cleaning. Would you rather clean that spot yourself or have your dog do it? Female dogs clean the fur around that area on themselves as well.
