Why do dogs like to eat cat poop?

Every dog I've known likes to eat the turds from the cat's box or if it finds a pile in the yard. The first time I saw it happen I just thought that dog was sick in the head, but I've seen many dogs do it as if it's something in their nature.

And if you've ever witnessed a dog munching away on a cat turd you probably understand where the phrase "Sh!t Eating Grin" comes from! 🙂

Poo = yummy (from a dog's point of view, not mine---> however that might differ from other ATOT members)

They prefer cat food over dog food, so its the next best thing.

Humans would eat it too if somewhere along the line we didn't gain the insight that poop is chock full of harmful bacteria. Infants have been known to do it too... they just don't know any better.

Edit: It's not just cat poop either... I've seen dogs eat dog poop too (their own or another dog's).

Hahahahaha! Thats true, I have no idea why they like to do it, but they do.

I know my girl, Jewel would if she had the chance. Thats why I keep the litter box in the basement, she wont go down the open face stairs.
