Hey, instead of saying the nurse is dumb, try using your brain and saying "that hurts a hell of a lot. Is it supposed to?" She's not going to know if it hurts if you don't tell her.

Read the thread. I asked the nurse, and she asked the doctor, and he just figured it was from tenderness. I realized when I got home, and took the boot off that the reason it was hurting was because she over tightened it. A nurse should know better than to over tighten the strap right over where the wound was because it follows logic that it would chaffe and cause massive amounts of pain. Me being the patient, I figured what the doctor said made sense, until I got home.

it follows logic!!! :D :D

But she was neither :Q.

You're an idiot because you didn't use your brain and think for yourself. You could've told someone and have it checked but you didn't. Granted there are some nurses out there that don't need to be nurses but this sounds like it's your own stupidity that got the best of you.

I asked the fvcking doctor. Read the goddamn thread. When you don't walk on a limb for two weeks, some pain is expected. The doctor said it was from tenderness, and that made sense. A brace is supposed to be tight (it's there to limit mobility), but she overtightened it, and I didn't think it was because of the boot until I had time to examine it at home. Anyway, a nurse should know how to properly tighten a boot for someone who had achilles surgery since this doctor's office is a foot surgeon.

Problem with that argument is that nurses are licensed/registered/tested/regulated by the state & are supposed to be competent, you're supposed to be able to trust them, at times this trust is misplaced.

As a practicing nurse for nearly 2 decades, if there's any way to avoid it, Do not ever leave a family member alone in a hospital, they are vunerable & forced to trust complete strangers for their very lives.

When I go to my Dr's office/hospital (or with our children) I don't tell them I'm a nurse till the perfect moment, you should see the reactions sometimes.

That's when you say "are you sure? It hurts so much I'm having trouble walking", not come home and whine about stupid nurses on ATOT. I still say you're the idiot in this situation.

And I did say are you sure, and that's why I was using the walker again. I was supposed to leave with a cane, but because of the pain, he told me to use the walker.

oops... I should have clarified that my disbelief was about Windogg's comments regarding her university's approach to education. That truly is scary.

I guess I'm just naive. Health care should be a calling, not simply a cash cow. Someone had told me that even Katie Gibbs is considering trying to cash in and start a program to train nurses. God help us.
