Cause the bad guys are stupid? That's why they were running in the first place.

Oh.. and you can't outrun a radio.

Simple. Because you can't show a suspect getting away from the cop on the show. Bad publicity.

Exactly, they edit anything out that makes the cops look bad.

No they don't necessarily. I saw an episode where a cop car t-boned (at a high rate of speed) another one in a residential neighborhood.

That's what they would like you to believe. The Seattle Police Department has a pay bonus for employed officers that can still meet the physical requirements necessary to get hired in the first place. It is not required that you be in shape, though. Then there was a huge scandal because cops who had no chance in hell of meeting the physical fitness requirements were applying for the bonus pay for being in shape, and getting it without testing.

I don't think that's necessarily bad. They weigh the risk of making cops look bad with the positive publicity that cars get crushed will bring. I'm sure they edit out everytime a cop gets outrun and show only the time when a cop with the help of radio places himself right in front of the guy. It's also pretty obvious that they are a lot nicer in front of the camera to the suspects.

But you don't have to be in shape to write speeding tickets all day.

It's funny because even the cameraman can keep up with the perp and the cops.

Police forces don't use hollowpoints.
I do, but nobody on the force knows it. I personally hollow point them myself late at night, under a bare bulb in my basement.

In regards to fat cops I think that if you can't meet the physical fitness requirements on a yearly basis you're taken off any patrol duties. I've seen fat cops who couldn't outrun me if I was on crutches, and I know that at least one police force as no weight restrictions at all. They had a 350 lb guy on the job. There is a reason why people have to meet fitness requirements in the first place and those should not waiver just because you're finally a cop.

LOL, that reminds me of the one episode where the cameraman outran the cops and caught up with the perp, and the perp started to turn with his hands up, saw it was just the guy with the camera, then took off running again.

I've seen them get away before. But you gotta remember, the cops are trained. Many (if not most) work out every day. How many crackheads or other asst pieces of crap that probably haven't had good exercise in years are going to outrun someone trained?

My neighbors are both RCMP and I go jogging with them a few times a week. We are just "jogging" and I am exhausted by the time I get home.

I think this is closer to the truth than many think. As with many previous posts stating its dumb to run (though it is) That is a huge reason whay the show is still on, to show that resistance is futile.

Where have I heard that before?

If I were that cameraman, I would've dropped the (~$3000) camera and tackled the fool myself. Now THAT is publicity (And the roughly 20m/s impact would be easily absorbed by the industrial camera body, so film would keep rolling)

What an interesting ep that'd make - foot chase begins, cameraman gives requisite 10 seconds before getting out his own door, hits the dirt and then you see the cop pass, hear more footsteps approaching, the camera falls and hits the pavement, and this dude strapped with 50lbs of assorted camera gear floors the crackhead.
