Yep, I much prefer my cell phones like this. I mean, you could tell it was there and you didn't have to worry about losing it or misplacing it.

Plus, you can use it to club potential muggers to death.

I like flip phones...they conform to the shape of the human head better. Having a microphone three inches up your cheek is NOT a recipe for good sound quality.

The Hiptop/Sidekick is still an awesome platform. Probably the only phone that tries to maximize the concept of communication.

Unfortunately, the current driving forces for mobile phone development are ringtones, games and "smartphones." So most of the "innovations" are pretty much crap right now.

People (mainly guys) realized they look stupid with that stupid little phone pressed against their big heads, hence the move back to the flip phone.

thats why you use the bluetooth function...
small non flip phones with tons of features are still better than flip phones I gotta open to do anything
Bluetooth phones were few and far between back when the tiny phones became popular (2000ish?)

Besides, I've owned one non-flip and hated it. The screen was always dirty and the keylock always managed to work itself off.

EDIT: People that walk around talking on a BT headset look like complete idiots. I only use mine in the car.

QFT.
Having autolock the keys is such a pain in the ass when you try and unlock later in the dark.

Flip is the way to go.

Hell yes - everything about the sidekicks interface was absolute perfection. It is as if they were the only phone manufacturers in the world who thought about how to do something right and intuitive, rather than the way every other phone company did it.

Best thumboard, 100% responsive interface, every button was in the right place and did exactly what you wanted it to do, full multitasking, and the flip screen is brilliant. The only problem is that people can't get past the fact that its a "teenage" device, and you have to pay $20 a month for slow ass internet. The platform is also locked shut, and the PIM functions, while well done, arent exactly the most advanced.

Before I used the sidekick, I wondered how it could possibly work well without a touchscreen. After using it, I realized that the touchscreen only hinders you by forcing you to take your hands off the keys. I use a treo now, and things that were painless and simple are an unintuitive pain in the ass. The SK had hardwired ok/cancel buttons. On the treo, I have to use the dpad to highlight the ok button (which isnt always as easy as it sounds), and click it. Would have been one button on the sidekick.

If they release a pro version with BT, EDGE wireless, SD expansion/MP3 playback, open up the platform to invite developers, and get rid of all the kiddie stuff, I'd absolutely jizz myself over it.

I can unlock my keys in my sleep. the buttons don't move, so it's pretty easy to do without looking.
my problem with flip phones is that they are shorter, but fatter. i'd rather have something slimmer. though the razr is pretty nice, i don't really like motorola. my next phone will be either a sony k750 or a samsung t809. probably the sammy since i can get a deal with a contract.

I've been doing some research, yes I'm sticking with Tmobile because I've had them for 4 years and I've never had a problem or a dropped call. I know you can import good phones, but they're expensive as hell. I did that when I imported the old Ericsson T68 for $500 a few years before sony released the T68i here (which sucked in comparison, by the way). I'm contemplating the TMobile SDA...yes, its big, but only marginally bigger than my current phone, and it seems to have some pretty kickass features. Its Microsoft Mobile 5.0, so full internet browser, outlook, WIFI capable (my campus is completely WIFI ready so that'd be nice), a lot of other nice features too, for $249. Haven't decided yet though....

What did you say?

Um yeah I think he was talking to me Dawn. Oh yeah well everyone here talks to themselves out loud. Just forget it then.

Right.

SLVR/L7 sucks ass.
Sony Ericsson phones are nicer, smaller height/width (though they have greater depth), have a better UI and better buttons.
All in all, they are just plain better.

non-flip phones today.

There was a day when there were tons of kick-ass standard cell phones. Now there's none. My old Ericson T68m and Nokia 6610 were both considered top of the line phones at some point. Today, the only non flip phones out there all suck.

Its disappointing, cuz I hate flip phones.

Non flip phones don't suck you just don't know your phones. T68? Thats ancient.

What about SE's K750i, W800i? What about the upcoming K790 K800?

Everyone advertising for Moto is like almost retarded. They're still stuck on VGA cameras and maybe 1.3 MP cameras that can't even compare to the aging Sony Ericsson S700

W810 has 850/900/1800/1900, 2MP cam, EDGE, MP3 player, 2GB memory with memstickduopro..

Bluetooth is an awful name btw.

It sounds like something that happens when a poor chap's dentures fall into the head. (toilet).

I have both. I prefer the L7 over the K700i anyday. I had a T610 that I loved, but that changed after I had the K700i after awhile. The L7 does everything I need just as good as the K700i, minus the good interface (well, k700i was laggy as hell anyways). Nice and sturdy without that cheap plastic feel.

Why would you base a phone purchase on the camera quality? It's a phone. 🙂

Exactly... no matter what, there's limitations to the size of the lens and hardware. Megapixels doesn't mean sh1t in the camera world anyways...
