Why do case doors open to the left?

I'm thinking of getting an Antec/Chieftec/Chenming server case, but I'm really annoyed the doors all open to the left. It seems to me that since most people in the world are right-handed, they put their CPU on the right side, making a door that opens to the right more natural. Am I missing something here?

Don't know. My two server cases open to the right, but the drive tower opens to the left. (all from the same manufacturer) The other manufacturer (think HAL) opens to the left.

??

It's because of the powerful left handed computer users' lobby, only second to the farming lobby.

That ain't a problem for me as I'm ambidextrous ;-) But it IS stupid, especially if you have a windowed case; You'd want that sitting to your right so that you see the window, but then the door would open the wrong way. A design flaw for sure.

I believe they are reffering to the door that covers the CDrom and 3.5" bays of cases like the Antec 1080 and its many counterparts.

Maybe it has something to do with where the cdrom buttons are located, over to the right of the drive... I never really understood doors (especially non-locking ones) on a computer case anyway.

I hadn't thought about the eject buttons, but if the door can swing open about 110 degrees it shouldn't be a problem.

Why a door? Some say the door makes the machine quieter. They also keep the dust off and provide security (they come with a lock).

I just happen to like the Antec cases, but I wish they made a doorless version.

I thought about that, but it would be hard to do on the Antec. With some reengineering though, they could make the doors easily reversable.

Some cases DO have reversible doors. I know that the doors on many Coolermaster models can be reversed.

It's quite obvious, if you ask me. There are a number of reasons for it.

-Most desks have spaces to put towers on the left side, filing cabnets on the right side because of the right handed deal. People open filing cabinets more than they put CDs in (ideally.)

-Most people use the mouse with their right hand. With a left side opening door, if their case is on the left, then they don't have to take their hand off the mouse to open the door.

-The power button (as is with most cases.) is on the right side. If it opened on the right, you would have to open it further to turn it on.

Ness1469 and others, offer some very good points....for desk-based use. This is about server cases, which are expected to be in server rooms or closets, etc...not at/under someones desk.

On both my servers, I don't have to open the door for the power or to insert CDs. Only to insert/remove HDs.
