Why do canned peaches taste so much better than fresh peaches?

Because you've never had a really good fresh peach.

The ones we get here are usually California peaches. Picked unripe to ship all over the continent. Pure garbage, IMO. Same with tomatoes. Canned, they are picked ripe. I only buy fresh peaches in the summer. So much food is the same. Picked and packed for agribusiness reasons, taste and texture are at the bottom of the list of priorities.

If you are ever in Southern BC or Washington State in late July, buy a local peach from a farm stand and see if you feel the same way.

i dont think anyone has mentioned the thick syrup they are canned in which probably mad eup from sugar lots and lots of it....

and fresh peaches and nectarines and far superior to the canned ones in my opinion

Fresh peaches are so much better than canned. The canned ones have all kinds of nastiness mixed in. There's a peach orchard right near me where I pick peaches in the summer and they're delicious.

Hmm, I dunno, the peaches that I get from the farmers market or in shoprite (both in NJ), just arent that juicy and have no tasate. They are too dry and bland.

sounds like they're not very ripe. put it in a bag for a day or two until you can smell it in the room, then it'll be juicy and sweet. or in such hot weather... you can probably skip the bag.

Added sweetner; for an answer to your question.

I love a good, fresh peach. I could eat one for hours at a time with the fuzziness tickling my nose 😀 Though I heard some people like peaches with a little cream. I never preferred them, but I enjoy making them 😀
