just like americans say "like" all the time. here, ppl say something even more annoying. they say "ze" all the time. basically, that thing.

person one: So i came home for that thing.
person two: what thing?
person one: you know, that thing!
person two: no, what thing, work? school? bank?
person one: yeah work

it's very annoying.
