Why do black people perpetuate a word that they don't want others using?

I have never heard a satisfactory answer to this.

As an Asian man, I have never once heard a group of Asian people talking to each other and throwing out "beloved patriot" left and right as they are conversing.

But I hear black people all the time use "awesome dude" when conversing with each other.

I agree with people like Bill Cosby and Oprah Winfrey who say that black people should never use the word themselves. I think they see the use of the word in the same way that I do.

They're the worlds biggest trolls?

Especially in movie theaters. Seriously I often notice many people give black teens dirty looks in movie theaters in the same way that waiters and waitresses give those same looks to black people in restaurants.

:whiste:

I have to agree; never understood this. If I was upset at being called a particular epithet, I would never use it myself. Very odd.

Actually "The Man" is not holding them down anymore so they hold themselves down because that is all many of them know.

I'm glad Obama criticized black people in some of his speeches regarding the state of African-Americans in the US. You really don't have to be an athlete or musician in order to elevate yourself out of your situation.

I still believe that racial differences can still directly lead to setbacks in life, but the effects of that in the US today are FAR less pronounced than it used to be decades ago.

IMO, as a minority myself (although not black), there are no excuses anymore.

Are you saying "Yo awesome dude! How goes it?" to someone you know?

Or is it more "Look at those ******s lowering the tone"?

Cos theres a difference.

i agree, they should be more niggardly in the use of racial slurs.

😀

Subtle.

Not subtle. Infractable.

You take the meaning out of the word by owning it. I think they should just get over white people using it and then the word would have lost all meaning.

How is this thread not locked yet?

Amount of racism ITT is quite typical of ATOT, as always.

Sensitivities that lead to the silencing of people I believe also breed racism. By not being able to talk about it, even in an Internet forum, you would be essentially putting a mask around the entire issue.

And if people cannot see beyond the mask, then of course people will start formulating their own theories about certain demographics of people.

As a minority myself, if people have a legitimate criticism about Asian people in general, I wouldn't be the one sounding the alarm. I'd rather satisfy people's curiosities and give the best answer that I can given my own life experiences.
