Looks like the only way to get answers on this forum is to flame something. Then I get all the replies in the world.
ATI sucks in Unreal Tournament (original). Artifacts, tearing, cutting. Nvidia plays it perfectly. WHY?!?

what card are you using from ati???

i am using the 8500dv and have played both unreal tournament 1 and 2... both ran perfectly without any problems at all...

make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your vid card.. you can grab the latest version from ati's official website.

No problems here either...... the only difference I see from my Geforce DDR to my Radeon 9000Pro is that it takes marginally longer to load into the game with the Radeon when going into the intro flyby.... go figure.

Hell, even my original Radeon VIVO was capable of playing it artifact-free (not at blazing fast speeds mind you).

Which card is it that you're using?

I do recall seeing something about an OpenGL patch for UT specifically for the newer Radeons.

Most likely an RTFM error.

Try turning Vsynch on/off. Also, make sure you have the latest Unreal patch version and the ATI patch(es)... do a search on Google or something for ATI Radeon Unreal fixes.

Hopefully I posted this in the right thread - you have 2 going for no good reason.

Q:Why do ATI cards suck at Unreal Tournament original?

A: They dont

UT works just fine on my 9700P as did my Ti4600. I run it in OpenGL with high res S3TC textures. Looks really sweet this way and is faster than D3D. I switched over to D3D to give it a try. It also works fine. No issues, but not as nice as OpenGL with S3TC.

OK, I first tried the Radeon 9500 pro. Had supersonic artifacts. Tried everything (I think) to stop it. Nothing.
I gave up, sold the 9500 pro and bought a Sapphire 9700 non pro. The card has GOD power. But still supersonic artifacts in
Unreal Tournament original.
Click on my "riggage" link and see the first machine. Thats the current config of my gaming machine.
I am using 3.2 cats and CP. Direct X 9 installed.

User error? hmmm. Maybe. I am not perfect and can totally accept blame for my card not working in Unreal Tournament.
So instead of your profound sarcasm, why dont you offer some help? Tell me how to prevent my "user error". You know, the anomoly
between the keyboard and the chair.... Is there a patch for user error? LOL..... Anyway, I cant believe how many people posted already.
If I had asked a normal help question, I would have to wait days and bump repeatedly to get 1 or 2 attempts to help.

So sorry for the flaming title to this post, I just want this problem fixed with all of your expertise.

Thanks
Keys.

Not trying to pull anything Nick, I need help. Can you help? Yes I posted another similar thread but waited days to get the same response I got with this thread in about 3 hours. You see why now?

OLD FART: "I run it in OpenGL with high res S3TC textures"

So what about these textures for UT. Am I missing some? How can I try this?

I don`t have an ATI card but have you tried playing with all the settings like AA,AF ,quality /performance etc? V-sync should be on to stop tearing.

I haven't played UT2003 but I've played CS on my new Radeon 9500PRO. I had problems with Cat3.2 on DirectX 9 then somebody suggested to use Cat3.1 instead and it worked. Now try downloading Cat3.1 then update your ATI driver.

I can get you hooked up to use this, but 1st question is,
Do you have UT CD # 2? That CD had the high res textures. Without it, it doesn't work.

Anybody who has used this will agree. You will never play UT in D3D again.

edit Here is how to set it up:

1) Install the high res textures off UT CD #2. If you dont have it, there is no point going any further
2) Download the 436 OpenGLDrv.dll from the UTPG website
3) Unzip and install in the \UnrealTournament\System directory
4) Modify your UnrealTournament.ini file to look like this: These are my tweaked settings, they may not be optimal for your setup.

Old Fart, you are the man!!! I know I have CD#2 around here somewhere. I am going to try this right now.
Thanks so much for this.

Will tell you how it works out. I'm sure this is the answer.

You will need the OpenGL file. The link to it is broken. I can email it to you. PM me with an email address and I'll send it out. Once you get it going, check out the Earth in CTF Face and the cliffs in Lava Giant. Compare D3D and OpenGL. They should look significantly different.

Hey oldfart, Epic released a 440 patch for UT to patch up some security issues. Will the 436 OpenGLDrv.dll still work with the newer 440 patch installed?

Edit: Sorry, the patch was released by UTPG.

Never tried UT 440. That is a great site. Lots of files. I'll edit my post to link to the OpenGL file.
