I wouldn't be surprised if the British were influenced by French, but the Americans retained more older spelling that wasn't influenced by French.
I'll make you a deal... stop spelling math as 'maths' and color as 'colour', then I'll start telling my fellow Americans to use the Z.
Do you say "I'm really good at mathematics" or "I'm really good at mathematic"?
It sounds exactly like how the word is pronounced... with a z.
Nobody says enter-preese. It is pronounced enter-prize.
