Why do Americans not care about Soccer?

If the point was that if people only play football because it's cheap, why do people who could equally play anything else, play football?

which people exactly? i'm guessing people who could realistically go yachting are doing that and not playing soccer.

also, in europe it might be possible to get paid big bucks to play soccer, unlike here, which might motivate people as well.

LOL Truth. And Black Africans are not near the athletes of African Americans. It's controversial to talk about but 400 years of, natural selection on slave ships, selective breeding as well as diet made AA's the best athletes in the world.

That is one fucked up brain you got there.

Jimmy the Greek, is that you?

😱

Jimmy the Greek, is that you?

😱

Yeah Jimmy the Greek got in trouble for saying it but the fact is a degenerate slave trader/owner saw no difference between a cow and a human being and breed for size strength and endurance to make most profit. Only 20% on slave ships made it through horrific journey. Many wish to deny history for fear of guilt or can't fathom breeding humans in today's morality or minimalising the athletes work but PC and wanting to forget can't change history. You think smart men like Chris Rock or Jimmy the Greek just made it up? Or does it seem more plausible people discourage interracial comparisons and are inhibited by considerations of political correctness and makes distinctions between people which is unhealthy generally?

1. How is that the players problem? How about defenders defend? They have that option but instead move up and chose to leave a player behind them. This slows game, slows scoring opportunities and is lame. I'd like it to be more like basketball. If you fail to defend your goal fast breaks can and do occur.

2. Thanks, and the offisdes trap sux. I saw Oz using it against Germany and it slows game. I'm surprised it's not used all the time. Just keep your defenders 40 meters in front of you goal, no further period, and opponent would never get a shot on goal except from 40 meters out. Hard to make.

3. Yes off sides is lame as discussed. I think it would be a lot more popular if they just got rid of that rule.

that's like baseball getting rid of their outfielders or football getting rid of offsides or basketball getting rid of traveling.

the sport originally DIDN'T have an offside rule. but it took away from the game because there'd be a player camping out at the goal area at all times waiting for a long ball to be passed to him. and, even then, he wouldn't always score because the keeper would be on him. they, eventually adopted the offside rule as the sport got bigger and in 1990 or so fifa decided to change the old rule (where anyone past the last defender would be called offside if the ball was played forward whether or not they were the intended receiver) to be more offensive attack friendly to allow for more chances to score. then, about 4 or 5 years ago, they tweaked the rule again to make it better for attackers.

What Zebo's saying is true, but people are too PC (read: pussies) to admit and talk about it.

Now, I might be inclined to agree with AA's being the best athletes.....but that whole thing about the NBA stars getting their asses handed to them by totally white Euro and South American teams kind of shot that down, to a point.

Come on....if they were THAT much better, we wouldn't have needed a team of NBA elite all-stars with Coach K to beat them, right?

It's absolutely true. Truth hurts. Fact is all the best athletes in HS play mainstream sports. Our HS never even had a soccer team. And we had surfing and water polo teams of all things! Without exposure and popularity how the hell are kids going to play it? Moving on to college the main HS sports football, wrestling, hockey, basketball, track and baseball already grabbed the best athletes so you're left with bottom of the barrel. Private soccer/community soccer and some HS where they had a program. And those kids could not play anything else which is why they were attracted to soccer in the first place. They couldnt start on the football team or they would have. Could not start on the BBs teams or they would have. They are second and third rate athletes to choose from who move into college programs and the best of second and third raters become our national team. Endemic mediocrity is what we field.

i don't think i've ever gone to a state that didn't have high school soccer.

you must have had a piss poor sports program.

With all the talk of race and country and all that we must not forget athletics is 99% perspiration 1% genetics. USA simply did not try hard enough - too busy banging 2 at time back in their rooms and who knows what else.🙂

And even then keep your defenders parked 40 m out and then all the other side has to do is counter attack with one guy and beat the goalie.

You fool. Then the offense just has to beat the defender and only has to beat the goalie.

Interesting history thx eits. I understand the value of offside now, plus jockeying for ball is more interesting but I wish they would make like a 3 meter rule or something not that two players including goalie must be in behind striker.

No. We had just about everything else including a surf team. Most schools in the 70's and 80's had no soccer. According to wiki it's started gaining popularity in the 90's at K-12.

In a world where a Chris Johnson type athlete (RB Titans) is raised to play soccer instead of football, one of the current World Cup team members for the US is sitting at home.

chris johnson wouldn't last in a soccer game. first off, would get winded with all the running he'd have to do. secondly, he would lose just about every header he'd jump up for. third, although he's fast, how fast do you think he'd be dribbling a ball through defenders? he would definitely lack the finesse to play like landon donovan, damarcus beasley, or clint dempsey. chris johnson's a sprinter... he can't jog, run, and sprint for 47 minutes straight at a time with only a 15 minute break for halftime.

the only american football players i can see being any good in soccer would be maybe andre johnson or maybe even marvin harrison strictly based on their quick reaction skills and wingspan.

but i mean, seriously... do you really think that even if chris johnson was raised to play soccer, he'd be able to do anything close to this once he got older? you've gotta have the skills as a kid. that's just the way it goes. i played soccer with oguchi onyewu (we went to the same high school... he graduated the year before me) and i grew up playing soccer with freddy adu (he was a good friend of mine until he moved away). they both had some pretty good skills (freddy had way better skills than guchi back then, though... just sayin').

the fact of the matter is that people pick the sport based on their physiology and individual talents. in a sense, the sport picks the player. chris johnson got american football and landon donovan got soccer.

lol!

probably the stupidest shit i've heard in a long time.

hes right.....

if thats the stupidest shit you've heard in a long time, consider yourself lucky cause its 100% true. You should be able to relate, soccer players are like chiropractics......the best players choose to be doctors.

it's not true at all. that's like saying michael vick should be playing point guard for the chicago bulls just because he's a great athlete, or lance armstrong should be the cornerback for the buffalo bills because he's a great athlete.

you can't just say, "wow, this sport has amazing athletes and are, therefore, the ONLY amazing athletes in the world." what about triathletes? what about male gymnasts or olympic swimmers?

do you think michael phelps is a shitty athlete just because he doesn't play american football or baseball or basketball?

furthermore, do you honestly think that just because he's a swimmer, his body adapted to the pool? or do you think it's more likely that because his body is shaped perfectly for swimming, he realized at an early age that he's fucking awesome at swimming and liked the sweet taste of victory after every competition, so he kept doing it and working harder to be the best in the world, just like soccer players do, just like baseball players do, just like olympians do...

american football players are the only ones who don't really care about being the best in the world... they only care about being the best in the league.

Now that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The comparisons aren't even close.

yes, it is. when you change the rules, like offsides in soccer, you change the game. if defense is defense and it shouldn't matter where the offense is going, then it should be the same for other sports too, right? so, why should there be an offsides in football if there shouldn't be one in soccer? why shouldn't there be a traveling in basketball if you've got a defender on you ass? it's not like you can reach in, anyway, or else you'll get called on a foul for that.

assuming by your forum handle, i'm assuming you're not exactly the brightest guy in the trailer park...

I'm from Europe and I don't care about soccer...my life is to short to watch other men in shorts run around.

I agree that soccer sucks. Real Americans watch football, baseball, basketball and hockey. Soccer is not American. It's for poor people from communist countries in Europe and dirt poor third world places in Africa. Remember why we live in the Promise Land ... because of our quality of life. It is our quality of life that makes us excel in real man sports. If you watch soccer, you're anti-American.

MMA? We own that too. Brock would have those Euro wimps, aka soccer players, chained in his yard 200 yrs ago.
