I might get called a beloved patriot by a black man, but the fact if we both apply for the same job I'm 95/100 going to to get it over him - regardless of if I'm qualified or not.
Good luck with that if you are not spanish at least and applying for many large jobs down in in S. Florida. While affirmative action has gone away, many companies have a mandate more or less for ethnic diversity in management.
Problem is they must turn down more qualified and experienced workers many times to place one of ethnic background. I was part of a conversation between a government and large supermarket's hiring managers.
"many time?" uhhh no, white people still have a hugely unfair advantage when it comes to jobs. If a company's dumb enough to not hire many black people ever, and it comes down to where they are forced into a situation where when they HAVE to hire one or two. And it's not a qualified person, that is karma for all the times they had the chance to hired a qualified minority and instead when with a person simply because they were white. no government programs that are put into place to "help" minorities. Do more than help a rare few here and there. The majority still are SOL due to their skin color. If companies hadn't had a bunch of racist d-bags high up, there would have never been programs like Affirmative Action in the first place. As a whole this is companies own doing. The companies who never discriminated n their hiring, never cared about A.A. because they already were hiring minorities. And in doing so, weren't in a position with no black employees and having to scramble to hire a few who applied, qualified or not. A.A. never effected a company who wasn't gulity of discriminating.
While not a perfect solution, it was started out of necessity. There is/what a problem. And the governments remedy is somewhat like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound.
