like the DiscT@2?

it required free space at the end of a disc, wasnt the easiest thing to read, difficult to design, had a few downfalls (used to own a Yamaha burner)

CD TEXT adds disc and track related information to standard audio CDs for playback on suitably equipped CD audio players. The CD TEXT information, coded as characters for maximum efficiency, is contained in the R to W subcode channels in the lead-in and/or program area of a CD.

* Lead-in area: text information about the whole disc and individual tracks.
* Program area: text information for the current track including track title, composer, performers etc. The CD TEXT data is repeated throughout each track to reduce the delay in retrieving the data.

CD TEXT is compatible with the ITTS (Interactive Text Transmission System) standard.

I honestly have wondered many times, the very same thing.

To you n00bs, ever been in a car that had an aftermarket CD player that displayed all artist/title tracks? NOT mp3 or any other media, just a plain old cd.

When burning an Audio CD in Nero, just go to the properties of the tracks, and see what it shows. You can edit the information right there.

If I ever played or burned CDs, I'd probably use it. But I don't. Car doesn't have a CD player.

Agreed, greatest thing ever. My old car had a Sony HU installed and I'd see the text on all my Nero burned CD's. Great technology.

what was really the best thing ever is the digital subchannel for fm radio that tells you the station call letters and the song name/artist.

Every cd I've burned has cd-text enabled since all of my songs are 'tagged correctly but I never ended up buying a cd player that had cd-text capability. And since that cd player works fine, my next cd player will no doubt have mp3 support, so it will end up being no help for me.

That is pretty cool but you almost never see it. I know one person with an HU that does it and it's a factory GM.

Same here. Pontiac Grand Am 2000 and Chevy Silverado 2003, both stock HU.

my sisters new Corolla has the FM Radio text info.. not too many stations broadcast the info, though

CD text is badass... one of the my requirements for my HU was CD-Text... used it for a while before the HU was stolen...

then I went mp3-cd and never looked back. mp3-cd = badass

I always would burn my CD's with the text info option since my head unit was able to display it, but now with an Ipod I haven't made a music CD since I got it.
