Why did you guys like Kill Bill so much?

It was so-so at best. I'm glad I saw it for cheap. Definitely not worth $8.
1. Strange plot
2. The action isn't realistic, and it isn't funny. Maybe if the ridiculous fights were shorter... the scenes ran on WAY too long... I was bored for a lot of the movie.
3. Anime? 😕
4. WTF, just in general?

Acting: fine
Action: see above
Humor: none. maybe the whole thing is supposed to be some wierd humor that i just didn't find funny
Plot: still not clear on the plot, but so far it isn't looking very good
Realism: N/A
Sex: N/A
Special Effects: if you like joke effects (i.e. red fountains), you'll like them. They bored me fast.

Why was everyone raving about it?

i dont care for tarantino and didnt care to watch kill bill
went to see it last weekend by g/f's request
i liked it--ebert said it best:

"The movie is not about anything at all except the skill and humor of its making. It's kind of brilliant."

because it was cool(imagery, music, sound) and it was about payback for the worst sort of atrocities that one can endure. It was elegant and clearly made for people who take movie watching, not movies per se, seriously.

I'm looking forward to it on DVD, since I grew up watching the Run Run Shaw / Shaw Brothers Chinese sword & sorcery movies, Japanese samurai movies, and later the HK kung fu movies. That's one reason why Big Trouble in Little China is one of my 100 favorite American movies 🙂

Either you like watching a lone warrior carving their way through a hundred oponents, or you don't. Apparently you don't, no big deal. Move on to something you do like.

as i said in another post, probably fits nicer here:

Am I the only one who was disappointed with Kill Bill? It seems like Tarantino took several giant leaps backward with Kill Bill from his older films. There was none of the hilarity or character-absurdity that made Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction (and less-so Reservoir Dogs) so awesome.

Sure, the violence was funny, but in his other movies it seemed like the violence was merely a way to tell the story. In Kill Bill the story, IMO, was severely lacking -- we are thrown into this over-used revenge plot filled with types instead of characters.

There was no character development, and next to no emotion. Sure, spurting blood is funny in its absurdity, but I don't think it was enough to carry the film. Anyone else feel the same way?

I like both RD & PF, and same as you think Kill Bill sux....it was the gf suggestion to see it.

It's not about what it's about, it's about how it's made. That's why I loved it. And I'm a sucker for movies about revenge. And I thought Uma Thurman looked good. 😀

Just cause you didn't understand it doesen't mean it sucks. 🙂

Obviously they see something in it you didn't.

kill bill is awesome. that's is why we like it.

of course lots of people don't like anime, kung fu flicks, or samurai movies. Why they would see kill bill is beyond me, but lots of these people come back whining about how cheesy it is. they are teh stupid.

I agree with boyRacer, this was not a usual movie. Yes, the Matrix and Lord of The Rings are great movies, but they follow the same lines as many other movies. Kill BIll offered a touch of originality (yes, I know it wasn't "original per se, but this was Tarantino's homage to great actors and directors). Kill Bill offered, to me, a mix of all genre's, ideas, and a great plot to go along with it.

kill bill=GTA? at least vice city.... 😀 im talking about the scenes where people get their limbs chopped off (like GTA) and how when you shoot someone in the certain body parts they are just blown out (anime scenes, GTA)

FYI: in an interview tarantino said that kill bill would be thekind of movie the movie-characters from reservoir dog and pulp fuction would enjoy. so it's a step further away.

i really enjoyed the movie.

Pulp Fiction had "the gimp." Kill Bill has the "coma" sex ring. Little things like these totally ruin the movie for me. How does Tarantino come up with these ideas? Don't tell me that none of you thought that hospital scene was disturbing.

I haven't even seen notions like that on tv. I'm desensitized as well but I'm beggining to the that Quentin is a kinky mofo. Where does he get these ideas?

I just can't see that. Most of Tarantino's other movies have so much originality, and this one seemed to have none. His other movies have some of the most fabulous dialogue ever in movies (the "Like a Virgin"/Tipping scene in Reservoir Dogs? the dept. store scene in Jackie Brown? Crown Royale/Ezekiel/foot massage in Pulp Fiction? to name only a few) and Kill Bill had nothing.

And as for plot, there was none. I mean, it seems like most people like it merely because it's an homage to uberviolent asian cinema. Fine. The allusions were nice and he clearly can make an uberviolent asian movie, but I guess I just don't like that genre.

If I wanted to watch asian uberviolence, I would. I wanted to see a Tarantino movie, and I didn't get it...
