just something I was thinking about while listening to Hardcore History today... at different times in history, people in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East had superior technology, so why was it the Europeans that conquered the world during the age of discovery?

Europeans had domesticated more animals and lived more closely with them, which exposed them (and built up resistances) to a whole bunch of diseases.

Really? Then you know nothing about (ancient) Egypt. Ancient Egypt is an offspring of Ethiopia, which is an off-spring of Africa. Egypt is associated with the Arab world today precisely because it is revered as the center of Arab culture. Why? Because the Arabs adopted the ancient Egyptian culture, instanteously making them more historical and cultured than anywhere else in the Middle East (yes, including Jerusalem). In fact, officially, Egypt is called the Arab Republic of Misraim. Misraim is the ancient name of Egypt. All world religions is based on the Egyptian Mysteries. Every single one of them. From the Western faiths to the eastern ones.

EDIT: The ancient Egyptians called their country Kemet (land of the black soil). They were Kamites.

yeah, just different diseases. The goat had been domesticated eons before the first proto-European crawled out of their frozen caves, though.

The issue is that the animals they brought with them (or simply themselves), simply were not kosher to the other indigenous livestock and diseases of the conquered. or something like that

Came in here to recommend this. If you don't want to read the book, watch the documentary (which isn't actually very good, but it's narrated by Peter Coyote so it's worth watching just for that). The theories put forth are plausible but not accepted by everyone. A lot of it came down to being in the right place at the right time.
