just something I was thinking about while listening to Hardcore History today... at different times in history, people in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East had superior technology, so why was it the Europeans that conquered the world during the age of discovery?

why. not psychologically, but why Europe and not Africa, Asia, or the Arabs.

Was going to recommend this book to the OP. It's not as comprehensive as it could be, but it makes an excellent case for there being strong environmental influences on human development.

White people were late to the game of conquering. Even the religions and culture they brought to blacks and asians were black and asians.

Things might look different in another hundred or so years. IMO, the next few centuries will be influenced heavily by China/India thus asian countries unless a world war occurs.

The westernized world as we know it has reached it peak and things seem to be on downward trend. Poorer countries can more easily create new infrastructure without interference from the wealthy that object everything if they dont get a cut and mold citizens into whatever is suitable for that era.

We in the US are relatively spoiled and dont want to work harder.

Really? Then why are people still worshipping invisible men conjured up tens of thousands of years ago? Why are those so pivotal to their lives. Science may have made the invisible men more abstract but not much else.

Agreed. There is also a 3 part PBS series on it as well. Another good book by Jared Diamond is Collapse, although this doesn't deal with the subject of the OP.

Well, humanity started out in Africa so our common ancestors were all black, then some tribes moved away from the African continent and interbred with Neanderthals (it can be traced amongst all living races except original african descendants), the intermixing made better genetic offspring since it in essence meant interbreeding rather than inbreeding.

Then think about the climate, all the Africans had to do was to hunt for an hour and then they could enjoy their lives, the weather was great, the sex was plentiful, Europeans were cold and miserable and got annoyed at each other for stealing hides and sheit so they got well trained in the art of war.

First part is true, second part is... heh..
