Why did the words douch and douchebag become so popular all of a sudden?

All of a sudden all my friends,family,pastor,doctor,neighbors and realtor uses the term douchebag about 20 times when describing someone or a situation they don't like. Was it on a recent popular movie or tv show? I never remember the term douchebag being used so much.

It's a way to "swear" without having people yell at you.

My auto teachers last name is Duschesne so some call him Douchebag. It's strange and yet retarded at the same time. Funny part is, we actually like the guy.
