The Republican party felt their chances at holding onto power slipping away as the Democrats were becoming more and more popular. They decided their best chance at success as a party was to appeal to the racism in the South and the racists that live there since they are the majority. This was dubbed the Southern Strategy by political scientists and historians.

So when pieces of shit like Taj say the parties are still the same, ignore their sick drivel and point anybody you are discussing this with to that Fox News article with the RNC chair's own words. Also show them embracing the racist white supremacist confederate flag. And so many other things. But as far as the Southern Strategy, the GQP has admitted to that strategy I outlined above in order to win the votes of racist white southerners and start winning elections in the South to maintain power.

Southern US people have an extra complexity to their self hate. They cling to a cultural identity that once did everything politically, religiously, and socially to set white people as entitled to hold black people as slaves. This is hideously evil and requires a much more developed capacity to deny reality Northern US folk. Protecting their egos from the realization their social identity is evil requires a greater degree of stupefaction of ordinary rational thought including full blown delusional Trumpian behavior and easily allows the abandonment of party loyalty, first to the Democratic party and now the Republican party as will. The latter survives only in name but is now a fascist racist party bent of the destruction of democracy itself. The thing about losing in a society that values only competitive reward is that it makes people vicious and lacking in real moral principles.

But make no mistake, these folk imagine themselves to be on the side of real moral values because seeing and believing they are not, and via any fiction, is job one. Wherever you see contempt for others, whether it be for a party or for a so called race, it is always rooted first in contempt of self, suppressed.

But nowadays the states that used to be Democratic are now Republicans and the states that were Republican are now Democrats..

Why did this happen?
