Why did Nazi's burn books?

they wanted to form a 'perfect' race/country based on the truths/ideals that they felt were pure. they hoped to instill in the population that anything that did not conform to their idea of pure ... was automatically evil.

and they had hoped to rewrite history, getting rid of any evidence that did not support their views of pureness of ideal.

that is my theory anyway.

Exactly. The best way to destroy history and culture (before the information age) was to destroy books and records, and subvert the population.

 
They could've destroyed the books without the public book burnings. I think ti was more of a symbolic "don't fvck with us" than just to destroy the books.
