Why did Krispy Kreme lose franchise rights in Canada/Mexico?

What the hell happened? They opened up a few stores here in Toronto, and now their site says that they no longer have franchise/development rights within Canada. Same goes for Mexico.

Tim Horton's strongarmed the Canadian municipalities into revoking the licenses

It doesn't mean that Krispy Kreme is no longer allowed to open stores in Canada, Mexico or Western Europe. It means they are not currently accepting any new applications for more new franchise developments (stores) in those areas. They only allow a certain number of franchise developers in a given area and they feel they have already reached their saturation point in the areas they've currently been developing.

You're expecting a doughnut to be healthy?

"You're expecting a doughnut to be healthy?"

Yeah, Doughnuts are not supposed to be healthy, but they aren't supposed to be extremely harmful either.

Krispy Kreme's doughnuts are harmful and quite nasty in taste too. At least if it tasted great it would be worth the overload of sugar and fat. I actually enjoy the doughnuts from Krispy Kreme's competitor, who've been here much longer. They make quality doughnuts, albeit more sugary than I would like.

Canada and Mexico made a wise decision, even though their reasons are likely different.

You have to realize not everyone has the same tastes as you. If they did, Krispy Kreme wouldn't be as popular as it is.

Bah! Down with the corporations! Visit your local ma&pa donut shop!!! ;)

Seriously, it just amazes me how popular those Krappy Kremes are. Some folks just love 'em. Give me an old fashioned apple fritter anyday. :D

LOL! You're right . . . really! And if they did, they, majority at least, wouldn't be overweight! ;) :D

Somebody must like KK... i've never seen a lineup for donuts that extended all the way outside into the street at a Tim Horton before, but i've seen it happen at KK.
