because the motors made in 1908 didnt have the performance to go 165mph on I-10. same as the mechanical switching stations in most neighborhoods (that were converted to digital in the past decade or so to accommodate higher line speeds) wouldnt support the DSL. and you have to be within 1 mile for a strong dsl signal, up to 8 miles for crappy. it deteriorates over distance. my work is on a crappy 640Kb dsl, and we are about 3.5 miles from a station. we consistently get about 340Kb download. but its still better than dial up, so im ok with that.

because we didnt have the technology to split the frequencies used for phone and data transfer on the same line when phones were invented

Gee I dunno. . .why were there horse drawn carriages before there were Formula 1 racecars for that matter? Or why were there 8 track cassette tapes before there were CD's and DVD's and MP3's? Gosh I just don't know!

(Are you being serious?)

ATOT is definitely the wrong place for you, boy.

Also, all this could have been avoided if you'd bothered to do some simple research using google or wikipedia, but then I wouldn't have a funny thread to laugh at. :D

or boob implants.
Those are silicone, dammit!:p
I hated hearing it from my one engineering professor, that computer chips are made of silicone, or that it was an additive in some alloys.
If that was the case, there'd be no cases of chipped CPU cores, because they'd be so rubbery and flexible.
Meanwhile, silicon breast implants are falling out of style because they more closely resemble rocks than supple, fatty tissue.

this might be the funniest post i've read in a while.

this is like asking why people didn't use regular jet-plane commuting when they already had the capability to jump up and down. yeah, they both involve not touching the ground, but that's about it...
