I northern ND they have some massive ass cranes in the coal fields. What I don't get about ND is that they have a shit load of natural resources yet they also have wind farms. Who's dumb ass idea was that? WY I can see as they have a shit load of wind. Especially on the border between Colorado and Wyoming.

The reason these cranes walk instead of run on treads is due to historic tax code. Tread based cranes were imposed a heavy mining tax based on shovel size and tread length. By giving the crane walking feet it was considered only a single able bodied miner regardless of size and thus the tax could be avoided. Coincidentally, this is why some of these cranes have what appears to be a large mining hat mounted on top. It made their appearance as a human miner rather than a machine more convincing.

Those have to be in the next Terminator movie. Would be good tension with Arnold running ahead of one slowing saying AHHHHHHH while it chases him
