dfi utra d
2x 1024
1x 2580 hd
antec500w 80+ (seasonic built?)

anyway, i know when i first got this board, seasonic had some issues with the dfi nf4 boards but i thought they fixed that.

i have another box with the same board and same psu(430w though, still seasonic i think).

anyway, no matter how ii shut it down, it just goes into a reboot. always.

why? i checked all the bios, reset them to defaults and such.

is there some setting in windows? this is my son's rig and his mother made accounts and such. i don;t know what else.

i replaced the psu, nice silverstone, that blew during a surge. i guess it'spossivble the mobo got damaged, thouugh it looks fine, boots, loads windows, plays games, etc.

it's an old board, you think it's the battery?

Had similar problems in the past with my DFI lanparty NF4 board. But mine wouldn't shut off. It would jut sit there with everything off except for the fans and lights. There was nothing being output to the monitor it just sat there. Best i could figure is the motherboard was having issues with cutting off the power good signal to the PSU. Haven't had the problem since i dialed down my OC on the system.

yeah, i remeber people having that problem, the "cold boot" issue.

iut's odd that the other antes wotksfinein my other rig, same mobo, more ram...

i dunno, i'm baffled. i guess i'll switch out psu's and see what happens...

of course, any other advice is welcome 🙂 i'm ot in the mood foe switching parts about :|

This reminds me of an issue I had with my old PC..
It would never shutdown.. just reboot as soon as it tried to shut itself off.
This went on for a year, and I got used to it.. my solution: don't turn the PC off lol.

Later on, the PSU died. I replaced ita dn the problem went away.. so a faulty PSU was to blame for it in my case.. You seem to have replaced it already though, so I'm not sure.

heh, i might end up with that- swap out my psu for his. there's no way his mom will put up with that solution- just never turn it off, lol. she hates me, and therefore the rig i bought for my boy.

the mobo is ~ 4 years old i'd say, i got them upon release, iirc. i built 5-6 other rigs with the dfi nf4 chip that are still running strong.

ahh well, tear it apart this weekend with him i guess. maybe i'll swith out the whole mobo, cpu, and ram.

I've had a similar problem on an older PC with an older version of Windows. This CAN be a glitch in the OS. Search Microsoft's website and their Knowlege Base for shut-down problems. I found several articles, some specific for particular versions of the OS, that gave detailed troubleshooting procedures that fixed my problem.

yeah, i rally don't think it's a hardware issue, though the only thing i changed was the psu.

of course, it was at his house for a bit so who knows. i'll check the msft pages, thanks!

I had a very similar problem with an NF4 board, and it was a corrupted file in the OS. I tried everything to trouble shoot it, and as a last resort I reformatted the drive and did a clean windows install and bingo no more reboots.

i didn't see a solution, did you just replace the mobo?

hmmm, maybe i'll try a repair install. u'd hate to do a re-install as his mom has a locked acct onthere so i'm not sure what she has that nrrds to be saved. (probably hate mail to me 😛)

didn't help me either 🙁

re-install's stink, lol.

sucks worse when it doesn't work :|

i dunno, i think i'll try replacing the boards battery. only thi8ng i can think of that won't cost me money. if it's a damn compatability problem with the psu and the mobo, i'll be pissed.

looks like at least i found one problem. someone moved the pins (prolly me years ago, testing) to sli.

gotta make sure that's it, but got one clean shut down so far.

^^^ did nothing.

re-installed, worked.

i think the mobo is on the way out or something though. it lost one lan port and everytime i use the pci-e 1x slot, i gt the continous reboots. i'm tryong to use this serial port card for her 16yr old printer 🙂P) but it just doesn't like it.

im on xp sp3 if i didn't mention...
