Why can't you eat fatty food or exercise before giving blood?

Fatty foods will leave a high lipid count on the blood and could cause them to reject it.

Exercise will raise your blood pressure/heart rate and that just isn't something that is helpful when donating.

No it wasn't a trick question, I really didn't know. I'm giving in a few days and the reminder card said no fatty food, no exercise, don't come hungry, don't drink and don't smoke.

Wow, I have never been told that, and never asked that, and I have donated a lot of blood over the years. And BTW I smoke too.
