Why can't you apply sales techniques in life?

Such as trying to get a job, getting the ladies and dealing with various issues?

For example, why does job hunting have to be a process initiated by the employer? Why can't someone apply sales techniques when finding a job? Someone can use the sales techniques to gauge the market, figure out who the right companies are, then approach them as a sales person approaches a potential customer. A good sales person can probably figure out which person is just browsing, and who wants to buy.

You can use the same techniques in relationships and dating.

When you're working to sell yourself, you better make sure your product doesn't suck.

Unless you're in the porn industry. Then sucking definitely is a plus as you can make 5x more.

I do not see why not, you could choose to sit around and wait for thing to happen or be the guy/girl that goes after what you want. I am a slut and sell myself to women all the time...;)

Just about anyone that's remotely successful has learned the art of selling themselves, and that's in every scenario... including dating. The first few dates is all about finding subtle ways to show your potential partner why you're so great, right?

I would still stay away from "techniques" though. People that employ techniques like some script from a book will always come off negatively. Being real is more a more effective strategy.

I do do that in most aspects of my life... to one degree or another. It works quite well if you know to not go exactly "by the book".
One can be very successful as long as you do not apply the "slimey sales person image" ;)

You'll find that you can and should apply sales techniques in all aspects of your life. Bargaining, selling, negotiating, etc.

If you aren't viewing cover letters, resumes and interviews as opportunities to "sell yourself", you're doing something wrong.

I thought the whole point of an interview was selling yourself?

Many people sell themselves to businesses. Send resumes and cover letters to companies regardless if they are hiring. Getting in touch with the right people. Showing them the initiative can most of the time cause them to bite.

Everyone sells themselves to get jobs and relationships, though most people refuse to take ownership of that. Using sales techniques is just having a better plan of getting what you want.
