people in this thread are just making vast generalizations.

Quite the contrary, those of us who are against using a realtor have qualified and quantified our position rather succinctly, which is far more than can be said for the ambiguous platitudes that you, Bober, et al are blathering on about. I still haven't heard one damn person articulate what precise skill a realtor brings to the table.

like in any profession, there are those who are ethical and those who are not.

This is your problem: you're not reading. The debate isn't over ethics, it's over usefulness.

christ how do you people function on a day to day basis with such narrow minds?

You're chiding a number of people who have bought/sold WITH realtors and bought/sold WITHOUT them. The combination of those experiences has formed the foundation of our opinion. You, on the other hand... waaaaahhhh. I'll ask you what I asked Bober: is it your sister who's a realtor, or is it you?

I feel like I've been giving you far too much credit over the years. The sad part is this analogy actually has a lot of subtleties that would have helped your overarching point, but you took it in such a stupid direction.

Me, too. I've been giving Bober far too much credit. Just goes to show that even the most rational of men will throw logic out the window and happily substitute emotion when their egos are at stake.

oh i've read quite well and responded. you are just an internet dbag and have zero ability to be honest in any discussion.

ahem

i've consistently stated that if you can do it right you can buy and sell real estate on your own. however, that is not the case across the board so by default, a realtor is the answer. and i've been quite clear in not making the realtor position infallible. i have clearly stated there are greedy, unethical and terrible realtors, just like in any profession.

there are a lot of things we can teach ourselves, if capable, to perform. and get rid of the middleman, which seems to be your angry point.

for example we could learn how to remodel a kitchen. listen it's just a little demolition, then adding a backsplash and a granite countertop, then do the plumbing. therefore construction workers in this case are a wasted middle man. we can teach ourselves how to change our oil in our cars, and the brakes. therefore a mechanic is a wasted middle man. heck a bunch of people buy beer. guess what, you can brew your own beer, therefore, according to your logic, buying beer is for the stupid.

etc etc etc

i wanted to install new kitchen sink fixtures. few years back. a plumber wanted $300 for it. felt it was too much so got my dremel and some tools and did it myself. does that mean now all plumbers are just scummy middlemen? no. it means there are a variety of situations and people that require different needs and are capable or not capable of providing said needs. or they simply don't have the time to take care of certain needs. so then you hire someone. i decided in this case i felt i was up to the challenge, had the time, and could install the fixtures myself. a very simple concept you are incapable of grasping, which makes me question your intellect.

i could go on and on proving that you are just an idiotic dbag but that would be a waste of time.

congratulations, you win dbag of the week award. and yer ain't that bright neither.

the difference between me and you is the painting you are looking at is your own demented painting.

seriously. you need to get a grip on reality. i wouldn't sell your house for a 10% commission just on principle. i don't care if i'd get rich doing it, i'd rather not help any total asshole make a penny.

too bad your name is bikejunkie - implies you like to pedal bicycles, which is one of my favorite hobbies. sucks cause you are one of those guys that makes bicyclists look like idiots most likely. we need less idiots that make cyclcists look bad - there are already enough nutty drivers out there against cyclists, last thing they need is more ammo. and someone who is as obviously ridiculous as you is just contributing to their cause.

turns out biggest dbag is the answer. thanks.
you are just an internet dbag

For just a low, low 6% commission you can get this and much more from your friendly Realtor® at pixelsquish.com. 🙂

yes because no matter what you do, you have to be polite to ignorant trolls on message boards. do you have any other logical points to make? or you just feeding chum to our local troll who ignores quotes, points & logic.

I love making realtor's spring a leak

Your tears are delicious. Nom nom.

Tell you what, son: go re-read your drivel and then ask yourself if you should really be surprised at the response you've received. Frankly, we've been quite easy on you, under the circumstances 😉

As opposed to some chump who starts bawling all over his keyboard because a pack of strangers on the Internet think his profession is a joke?

I am willing to be what BikeJunkie does for a living we would agree was non-skilled and as such, by his argument should be non-paid.

I have no idea who the hell either of you are so, sadly for both of you, my life will continue on despite your apparently lowered view of me.

Out of curiosity, what do both of you do for a living, and how much do you make?

careful bro, could be rental income.

Talk about an absolute lack of value. At least an agent provides some service, even if some people don't value it. A landlord doesn't do any work at all, they just own something and charge others to use it. The ultimate middleman: rent collectors.

When this topic has run its course, we could switch over to the usefulness of insurance agents. What of value do they provide?

Lol ok there. 🙄

Software Architect?

Sure, go for it. It pays quite well, so if it's easy, have at it

Maybe I should start whining about not getting any commission :hmm:

I didn't think it would upset you in the slightest. I was just making a point that in the past you've always seemed intelligent and objective with your contributions to a thread, but that's not the case here because your obvious personal bias has gotten in the way.

I'm an electrical engineer and I own a business that designs custom hardware for embedded and real time applications. Before that, I designed the PCI-Express transceiver in the computer you're probably using. I also work part time for a structural engineering firm designing wood frames for custom homes. I earn every penny of my income from both of these jobs with real, tangible output.

As for your other posts about being a landlord, I own four rental dwellings and I assure you that you are mistaken if you think being a landlord is no effort. Also, unlike a realtor, I have assumed all of the risk of owning those properties, which entitles me to the return on my capital. I charge a fair amount of rent and I am generous to my tenants, both fiscally and with my time to make sure they treat my property well.

I answered your questions regardless of the fact that my answers are completely irrelevant. It makes absolutely no difference what either of us do for a living. Even if we were being 100% hypocritical, which we aren't, we still wouldn't be wrong about realtors.

Lol ok there. 🙄

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Even if owning the property was literally zero work, which it isn't, the risk of owning it is quite real as I said above (and I'm sure you know).

And there it is, you've gone full retard.

You lost this debate before it ever started because you've chosen to defend an untenable position. Now you've decided to launch into a personal attack because you feel threatened by the completely valid opinions expressed here. Do yourself a favor and just stop now.

As well as the fact that a typical house ties up multiple 6 figure sums of my money that could be invested somewhere else.

This. I don't expect Bober to lose any sleep over one or both of us being rather surprised by his uncharacteristic departure from objectiveness and logic; that was never the point. However, rather than succinctly defend the profession of realtor with concrete facts, he's resorted to platitudes, red herrings, and ad hominem attacks - absurdly irrelevant/incomparable analogies, redirection to our own personal situations, etc.

A statement's validity will stand or fall on its own, regardless of completely extraneous arguments and situations. Your average forum troll can't tell the difference (I'm looking at you PimpleSquish 😉 ), but Bober is usually one to identify such failures of logic and force someone back on point. Now he's the culprit.

I don't care if you make a living knocking over convenience stores; the validity of your arguments are unaffected.

Are you coding or actually designing something new? If you are just coding ANYONE can cut and paste the proper subroutines and write a main driver.

I did software design, decades ago, but I wrote and put up some pretty large scale shopping sites even.

Now you've gone and managed to get me on BikeJunkie's side of an argument. Improbable, but true.
