I mean I remeber back in the day when a work truck was just that a work truck. 4 fvcking wheels and a bench seat. No power windows, no cruise controll, no leather seats, no foo foo frilly seat warmers to keep my ass warm, no damn tv, and no navagation. Damn things back when I was a kid were lucky to have heat and forget ac. The best part was it had a strong engine and hauled stuff and if it got dented or scratched who gave a rats ass.

When did it become the norm to have what we have now and have to pay out the rear for it? Bring back the basics in cars and trucks and make it to where the adverage Joe can afford such. Carbed, 3 speed vac controlled auto, crank windows, NON computer controlled engine, NO abs, and make it around $6-$8k in price.

Honestly I think the reason we dont see made in China cars here is because the Chineese know what the people want and they make cars and suv's that if sold here would only cost $6-$8 and kill the big three and more or atleast force them to change how they make cars. Cant say they they wont import them from a comunist county because 90% of what is here alread comes from china. I wish they would allow the cars to be sold here because I would be first in line to buy one myself. I want a NEW no frills car that IF I had to finace it would only cost me under $100 a month.

In all seriousness though I would have any trouble going andd buying one of THESE if it ever made it to the us market.

We already have that. It is called a used car or a used truck. No frills (since they are broken). Dents or scratchs, who cares it is used. $6k price is no problem.

If people really wanted this type of vehicle, GM would be selling them.

They should because I know alot of people that would love to have a new car that didnt have all the BS that goes in them if it can be had for cheap.

It about owning a new car, not someone else's troubled car, and not needing all the other crap.

Starting at $14k+ is not my Idea of cheap. That still puts me towards a $300+ per month bill at the cheapest end.

your statements make NO sense.

what is the "other crap" you dont need?

radio, a/c? sheetmetal? pedals? engine?

and buying used isnt as horrible as you think. it doesnt mean it was a troubled car, they either couldnt afford it, or found a better alternative are the normal reasons ppl sell cars.

I agree with this completely.

What happened to the K-cars! They were cheap, reliable, good transportation. I owned a Reliant wagon, and when the cancelled it I didn't know what else to buy. (I needed a wagon for business.) THe stupid PT-Cruiser wasn't utilitarian enough and the Durango got terrible gas mileage. I have no need for 4x4.

My sis bought her first car (in 1997), a Toyota Tacoma and it came with no frills -- no cd/cassette (just radio), crank windows, no alarm, manual transmission, etc. It was the only 'model' she could afford and she's still driving it to this day.

The problem with a cheap simple car, is all the regulations required make a car cost $6000 minimum. So the difference between what you get from a $10,000 car and a $20,000 car is huge, because you're spending $14,000 on the car instead of $4000.

have fun with a vehicle that has 90 bhp and weighs 2400 lbs. i mean it wont be horrible, but its not gunna be quick to speed up

Those who have seen the models in China have remarked that the quality leaves a lot to be desired.

also feel that reliability on a car THAT cheap aint gunna be very good.

After seeing the run-of-the-mill design honda came out with, I'm hoping they decide on a tiny tacoma-like truck.
I think it would be a hot seller.
Just a tiny truck with the honda emblem to back it. That'd be sweet-

Want a real truck? - get a UNIMOG

I've seen some older ones converted for use as a off road type camper type thing (think RV but off road), but gas mileage sucks!

BTW, a lot of them have PTOs standard or as an option... If you don't know what a PTO is, ask a farmer...

Price is the main issue in this thread.

Can anyone conferm where the Aveo is made, body and related parts?
I have found the engine is made is Austraila. A engine that dates back to 1997.
The car was designed from a company in Italy
But nothing have I found on the trans and body parts. Seems hush hush to me.

Evidently Americans want all of that cushy stuff you mentioned, and if you don't want to pay $30k for a new middle of the line sedan, then buy used. That's what I do. KIA and others have tried making these cheap vehicles, and when it costs little you realize why a car costing twice as much does cost twice as much. For one, it isn't a piece of sh*t on wheels, like most bargain cars, which have build quality issues, no amenities, and drive like ass. No air conditioning? If I worked for a company driving its cars all day in the alabama sun without AC I'd look for a new job.

You can still get cars without nav, ac, power windows, cruise, etc.

You used to be a mechanic, right? You know as well as I do that a used car is not as simple as inheriting somebody else's problem, unless somebody else considers a flawless vehicle that drives another 150k miles with few repairs to be a problem :)

They're called KIA. You want a sh*ty piece of garbage that costs well under $10k new, look no further than your local KIA dealership.

Yeah I guess things like airbags do throw cost in. How do you get to $6k tho?

MSRP is deceiving. I see that for a KIA optima, for instance, it's like $16k, but then the pathetic dealerships have their adds about "8K UNDER MSRP!!!" (that's one of the local ones) and you can walk out with it for a song.

Catalytic converters, O2 sensors, knock sensors, emmissions testing and certification, crash testing... All that equipment and testing isn't cheap. I calculated that my car has some $1000-1500 worth of equipment between the heads and the muffler alone.

I don't even think it's possible to make a mass produced car in California with a carburator.

the reason we don't see chinese cars here is because they're almost all exact copies of something else.

in addition, the reason they are so cheap is because they face no market risks. lose money? the chinese government will bail you out! need a new factory? no problem, the chinese government will build one for you!
