Last night I got a call on my cell from someone in the 551 area code. I couldn't think of anyone I wanted to hear from with that area code, so I didn't answer. Caller never left a message, so I figured that confirmed that I didn't want to talk to him/her.

This morning my wife started giving me sh!t about how it was her brother that called and wanted to come visit. I really like her brother so would have welcomed him. But he didn't leave me a message so how the fsck was I supposed to know it was him?

I know lots of people that refuse to leave messages on voice mail. Why? What's so fscking difficult about leaving a message?

Maybe it's not fscking important enough to warrant a message. I don't even check my voicemail :p

If it's someone I don't know I prefer them to leave a message.

If it's someone I speak to often, I'd rather they just not leave the message because I'll see that they called and I'll just call them back. I hate having pending voice mails and I especially hate having pending messages where the call just says, "call me back."

Yeah... even if they were calling to shoot the breeze they could at least wait 10 more seconds to say so.

It's his own fault.

because if i leave a message, it would be up to them to call me back. And people are irresponsible. I would rather keep the ball if I really need to reach someone.

i dont like leavnig messages
by the time people check them they are usually out of date
why call my voicemail and check the message rather than just calling back
it is easier so i dont end up checking my messages

If it's someone I'll see later that day, or week, and they're not cancelling on our meeting, normally the don't leave a message.

However, at home, most of my brother's friends call incessantly and I know not to answer the phone -- at the same time, they don't leave messages so my brother never calls them back! So the next day, it's the same process over again.

What's so bad about leaving a message anyway?!

I don't unless there is an absolute emergency. Its terrifying enough to make the call - let alone have a recording of my voice that could be played over and over. Here is my typical result:

Call 1:
"Yeah, Fed-Ex, this is Dullard. The package that is to be delivivery, I mean, dived, I mean delivered hasn't come yet. Please give me a call. Thanks."

Call 2 (a minute later):
"I forgot to say my last name. Its um. Um. I forget. Um yeah, <insert last name here>".

Call 3 (10 minutes later):
"Um, you can't call me without a number. Its um, 123-4567."

Call 4 (1 minute later):
"Forgot area code. Its 789".

I just can't do it. I just have to hope that the person listening to the messages can connect all four messages.

I usually don't leave a message unless it's really important. Don't really know why though.

I screen my calls too. That's why caller id was invented. If it's not important enough to leave a message, then it's not important enough for me to have answered the phone, or have to worry about calling back. This is true even for friends. If they call and don't leave a msg, I just assume that they wanted to say hi and I call them back when convenient.

I hate when people leave don't leave messages partially because I have no indication if it was important and I need to wake their ass up in the middle of the night if I don't notice the missed call until then. I mean, it's not like call ID adds and exclamation point to the end of important calls or something.

I don't have that problem. People don't leave a message, they don't get called back. Simple as that.
