This is starting to get annoing. I sleep through EVERY alarm. My clock radio, my cell phone, my pda, and my computer are currently staggered to wake me up in the morning. Somehow i tune them out and dont hear a damn thing. It just happened again during an afternoon nap i took. My radio was blaring for 45 mintes before i heard it... What can i do?

i have the exact same problem...

lately i've even started to turn my alarm off in my sleep.... i'll wake up an hour later when my roomate wakes up and never even realize my alarm went off... Not sure what to do about it, other than make things louder.

i do that too occationally. i cant even tell ya how loud i have it now though. i wake up my roomates with em, but i stay dead asleep in bed.

First, get the alarm away from your bed. Put it on the other side of the room. Next, turn it up real loud, annoying loud. This will make you get out of your bed and walk over to turn it off when it alarms. This should wake most people up, not the nicest wake-up though.

I have that same problem. I use two alarms, my PDA, and my alarm clock. I have the PDA away from my bed, so I have to get up to get it. When I do get up to get it, I always get back in bed, so I set my other alarm clock for 3 minutes later, to jolt me up. I still usually snooze both about 5 times.

here is an idea...

i leave my comptuer on at night... what if i want to set Winamp on a timer or something, so that it starts playing something like "eye of the tiger" (or another song that would be cool to wake up too)... becuase there is no way in hell that if i turned the volume up i could sleep through it....

i'm sure that could be done.

that worked for a while-- but even that wasnt enough to wake me up, all it ended up doing was really pissing off my roomate.

Brian M has it right--put a clock radio on other side of room, tuned to a station you HATE. Turn it up LOUD.
Once you're up, don't lie down again!

easier said than done.

i think i have a serious sleeping problem.. I lay in bed for at least an hour everynight trying to fall asleep, then in the morning i cant seem to wake up.

Get enough sleep!

I've done it more than once, but in all cases I was sleep deprived and was doing crazy thing by attempting to wake up at 8AM after going to bed at 4:30AM. I bet you're doing something like this.

Secondly, put the alarm clock where you can't reach from your room.

Put your alarm clock inside your computer case, turn it up REAL loud, then close your case up. Hopefully you have a case that you have to screw shut. If you're not awake by the time you manage to unscrew your case, then you need some serious help.

😀

Somehow, i sleep through this as well...

Any other ideas?

Oh yea on tusday... I layed down for a nap at 9:30am after getting back from an early golf class. Even though i slept a full 8 hours the night b4, i slept from 9:30am-7:00pm.... THE WHOLE DAY.... What the hell is wrong with me? I usually get 8 hours of sleep...

the problem is you just get used to the sound the alarm clock makes. your subconsiounce will hear it, tell your body to reach over and shut it off, and fall back to sleep. happens to me once in a while,,,i dont even remember shutting it off, but when i wake up (an hour late) its off and i set it the night before. try getting a different sounding alarm maybe. also try this; when u go to sleep, concentrate on waking up at a certian time. it sounds weird, but if u just keep thinking about waking up at a certian time, it will happen, at least for me. try it tonight. might take a few nights to get it, but after a while u can make yourself wakeup without an alarm.

So if I sneak into your room while you're asleep and shave your eye brows and draw whiskers and stuff you wouldn't notice until you look in a mirror or someone else points it out. .. meh... 😀 😀

*silver nitrate mixture is sometimes used to blacken a finger of people whose already voted to prevent double voting. It chemically combines with skin and can't be removed. It will disappear in a few days.

Work out a lot. I am serious. It used to take me about 20 minutes to fall asleep (~4 years ago) but now, ever since I joined track and run about 5 days out of a week, I hit the bed and fall asleep instantly. Oh and using Winamp as your alarm works well (especially when the song has a whole lotta bass and makes you jump out of bed to turn it off/down).

Some alarm clocks are better for some people. You just have to find yours. My friend wont wake up for crap,
but if its this one certain alarm clock, he'll wake up. Weird.

I have earned the title of Jedi Master when it comes to insomnia and sleeping problems. My dad was a night owl, my mom a practicing black belt in insomnia. Crappy sleeping is in my blood. Your problem has absolutely nothing to do with your alarms. Here's your problem . . . YOU'RE IN COLLEGE!!!! Until you get out in the "real world" you'll have no idea just how screwed up your internal body clock is. You might THINK you have an idea, but if you're anything like I was, trust me you have no clue. I've been out of school for over 2 years now and I'm STILL trying to recover from my college hours. Any time when you have the OPPORTUNITY to sleep for as many hours during the day as you did (God I hate you 😛) clearly displays that you're going to hose any chance of having a normal sleep cycle. Towards my senior year and in grad school I FINALLY realized that if I ever wanted the chance to sleep somewhat normally I had to avoid taking major naps during the day. The most I would allow myself REGARDLESS of how much sleep I got the night before was a 30 minute snooze on the couch. If you're taking a nap for the WHOLE day after a full night's sleep you're obviously either not getting enough sleep or getting FAR too much. Trust me, I'd kill to have your problem . . . taking golf for credit, being able to sleep all day . . . I really do hate you 😉

Bump ^ Cause im goin to bed.... Lets PRAY i wake up tomm, got a test nice and early....

Haha... As im typing this im realizing its 2:30 in the morning (my alarms are set for 7:15) No wonder im always tired 🙂

i feel the pain...i seem to adapt to my alarms after a few weeks or so, causes a problem when i ahve to buy a new alarm clock every few months - can get expensive🙁 havent found any way better than that really

Some common sense things are drinking caffienated beverages before bed, drinking alcohol before going to bed (it is a myth that alcohol makes you sleep 'better'), taking naps in the day (a short nap is fine, but no longer than 15 to 30 minutes), eating before you go to bed (while it may help you fall asleep, it can cause restless sleep, same as alcohol), staying up too late, not going to bed and waking as close to the same time every day as you can, substance abuse, etc.

General health concerns like eating well, drinking plenty of water, and working out can do wonders. Working out is the best stress reliever known and will make you ready to hit the sack.

After you've eliminated the common sense things, don't ignore or dismiss the possibility that you may have a real sleep disorder.

Welcome to the club, I have the same problem.

I sleep through my alarm clock every morning and the thing is that its freakin' 2 inches from my ear and rings for an hour. I've tried setting my cell phone alarm to ring 5 minutes before/after the main alarm which doesn't help at all. I have slept through BLASTING music as well.

he he, I know it's not just me.
Same here, I even snore really loud.
my gf smack me in the middle of the night and I still sleeping.
I've slept through 2 alarm, eventually I wake up like an hour later while the alarm still blaring.
Any cure ?

i cured the problems with my sleep cycle. signed up for classes this semester, making the earliest class I have on any given day at 2 pm. no more alarms. no insomnia. no matter how late i go to bed, i always have enough time to sleep, and don't miss lectures.
