I have an ABIT KT7 and Duron 700. I have 256 mb of pc133 OEM cas2 6.5 ns ram. I think it is NEC. Whenever I try to use the CAS2 verses CAS3 setting on my bios my comp wont even post and I have to dump the bios and start over. Does anyone know why?

duh, man - isn't that simple and apparent? your generic memory sucks...

it won't matter if it's name brand chips, generic noname stick sucks in general...

BTW, 6ns?! what parameter you are talking about? possibly the guy who sold you the stuff sent you misleading data on the dope, man...

I've got two generic PC-100 RAM sticks that I bought two years ago and they work using CAS2. They're not rated for CAS2, but they work. Try setting your memory timing to its slowest (8/10 ns) and see if that works. You can also try setting the bios to "Fail-Safe" defaults and work up from there with it.

Well, if it was "simple and apparent" I would not have asked now would I? But thanks for the mannered post.

The fastest RAM currently available has a cycle of 6.6ns. This is only sold by Mushkin ans is referred to as "Enhanced HSDRAM PC150". Memory is often sold by citing the tAC refresh rate which is much lower. For the PC150, the tAC is 4.5ns.

6.5ns tAC is consistent with cheaper PC100 RAM.

Either you have your numbers wrong or you were screwed by an unscrupules dealer into buying old PC100 RAM based on the tAC timings.

probably 7.5ns dood.
lots of 7.5ns ram does only pc133@cas3 (if i'm not mistaken, all 7.5ns can only do cas3 at 133)

as for the comments on generic ram- pff! i have 2 sticks of 7ns pc100 cas2 sdram that runs at 133cas2. it's the best ram i've ever tried, just as good as the mushkin.
