Hi all,

I will be really happy and thankfull if you can help me figure out what's wrong here.

Ok, an hour ago, I installed Windows XP Pro, during the setup, I made a partion of 8 gigabytes on my harddrive and installed Windows XP Pro there. The size of my harddrive is 30 Gigabytes. Now when I click on My Computer, I only see one Local Disk, and that's the one that I installed Windows XP Pro at (8 gigabytes). So what happened to my 22 gigabytes now? Did I mess up? How am I going to get it back?

Thank you very much!

If you run Disk Manager yyou will see the unallocated space you can then create a logical partition and format it.

you did not partition the rest of your hard drive because you took the wrong step in setting up winxp

What you should have done:
Create a partition of 8gb (instead of installing on the 8gb)
Create a partition of ~22gb
Then press enter on the 8gb when choosing the installation drive

What you can do now:
1. Format and re-partition :)
2. or use a program like PartitionMagic to partition the rest of your drive.

Thank you so much guys, I don't want to go through all that process again, so I guess my best choice is to use Partition Magic. Today I installed all the software I had (Photoshop, AutoCad, Cinema4d, and etc.) on the 8 gigabyte partition. So If I use Partition Magic for getting my 22 gigabytes back, will I have to reinstall everything?

Thank you again.

You do not need to buy any special software to get it back:)

What you need to to is open control panel, goto administrator tools or whatever it is, and then open up computer managment, and then create/format the other partition. I know win2k/xp comes with a partition creation program. I am under win98 so I can give the very exact name of where ya need to go:(

Right click My Computer
Then Manage, then go to Disk management under the Storage heading, There you will find a "bar graph" depicting your hard drive. You should have an 8GB partition that says "healthy" After that there should be something like "unpartitioned space" or "unallocated space".
Right click this space and create a new partition, then you will need to create a logical drive and then format it.
Then you will have your missing 22GB.

Hope that helps.
