I just put together my new system and my PLextor 16x burner wont hit 16x. I can only get it to burn at 8x even though I set the settings at 16x. Is there a simply solution, I am sure I hooked everything up right? Thanks for the help.

I have a Toshiba 48x cd player that I am trying to copy from. Could this also be a limiting factor of the burner speed?

if u r copying a cd consider urself pretty much lucky that you don't have to burn all the way down at 6 or 4X ... also make sure the cdrom is on a seperate ide cable... that may increase ur burn speed... most the time tho to burn at 16X u have to burn from a hdd

jasonvp, you are right, the toshiba reading cdrom is the restirction here. copy an image to the hard drive first, and I bet you can burn at 16x.

Like warloard said you should make a cd image then defrag then you should have no problem burning at 16x

If you are attempting to copy audio cd's from drive to drive, your max speed most likely is only 8x. This is de to the source cd-rom's limited digital audio extraction rate. Many cd-roms only support 8x audio copying. Try doing the same operation with a data cd, it's likely it will zoom along at 16x, then you can be sure. As some others have suggested, if you were to make an image of the disc, it would burn at 16x, yet you still have to wait for it to make that image.

Hope you figure it out,

Thanks for the help...When I use the plextor copy software I can copy cd to cd with 16x, but not with any other software. wierd but I am sure it is because of the source drive
