Why can't I paste an image into IE 9 from Windows Photo Viewer?

As the thread title asks, why can't I paste an image into IE 9 from Windows Photo Viewer? If I copy an image from another website, I can paste it here, but if I copy an image from Windows Photo Viewer and try to paste it here, the "Paste" option is grayed out. I can copy and paste images from IE 9 into other applications such as Word, so I'm guessing it has to be an IE 9 issue. 😕

I'm running Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit w/ all of the current updates. I also cleaned out my Temp files & restarted. SFC returned zero issues.

Thanks in advance for any assistance! :beer;

I was able to duplicate your problem.

It seems as if the copy mechanism does not work as expected.

If you select the Open menu and select Paint; it opens an instance of paint and you can then copy/paste from there.

I just tried using Paint and when I right-click below, the "Paste" option is still grayed out EagleKeeper. 😕

Experience the same.

Even MS has acknowledged it and there is no fix at present. 🙁

Best to do, is send the image as an attachment or use FF.

Current version of Chrome will not allow the pasting of images using the default settings

This is confusing. Where would you paste an image into a browser? You don't own those web pages. Seems lile you are talking about email but pointing to browsers. Wierd!

Pasting anything into someone elses webpage is hacking - not good. If it is your web page, you use your web page design ware.

Sounds like a security feature. If you could paste files into the browser, a malicious javascript could probably hoover all kinds of sensitive stuff from your pc to the intertubes.

Into what kind of page element are you trying to paste?

Web mail may be what he is doing.

OK - I suspected that. That really depends on the web mail software. I use MAIL2WEB as well as access my regular email accounts, and find no such problem. But, I copy my photos from Irfanview so I can better control the email size.

I don't see that as a browser problem, but as an email software problem, and possibly Windows Permissions setting a security barrier.

OK - I just ran a couple of webmail tests. Images can be attached to webmail but not embedded. At least that is what mine show. Therefore copy and paste will not work.

I was just trying to copy and paste an image from my computer into a browser window, like the one I'm typing this message into. If I C & P from say another tab in my browser, I can do that just fine.

Ex.:

😕

to the best of my knowledge, you would need to first upload the picture to a photosharing website like flickr or picasaweb.
i don't think anandtech's forums store pictures, and will only pull up a copy from the image host. Your computer is probably not an acceptable image host.

Ahem . . . you are not typing in a broweser window. It is a compose window. This forum's windows are not browser windows - they are established by the forum software. What you did was copy a photo from a BBC site and use it as a link to that site. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19253273

Pretty cool!

A reason you can't do it from Photo Viewer is that PhotoViewer is not a web site.

That makes sense fralexandr as I'm certain my rig is not an acceptable image host. 😳

Thanks for the explanation! :beer;

You learn something everyday I always say! 😳

So as fralexandr pointed out, what I was trying to do will not work and is normal; at least EagleKeeper confirmed that the other C & P issue isn't my ignorance. You gotta take the good w/ bad I suppose.

Thanks again everyone, much appreciated! :beer;
