Why can't I overclock anymore?

If I try to overclock my CPU to anything higher than 223x11, my computer won't boot up.

At 228x11, it said something about inserting a disk. At 224x11, it just said something like Failed to load operating system.

I've been running prime95 for about 15 minutes at 2453mhz and my temps haven't gone past 51C, so I know that's not the issue.

Is there any hope of getting to 2600mhz?

How are you overclocking?
Cause if your overclocking your FSB without a RAM or AGP/PCI lock, you might fry everything else, especially RAM.

You arent giving us enough information it could be a million things, ram timings could be too tight, your HTT could be too high, your cpu could have hit the wall so on...Give more info so people can help you. And read the overclocking thread you'll probly answer your own question.

Sounds like your PCI lock isn't working properly. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that board uses PCI dividers and not an actual lock. You might have to bump the HTT a little higher actually before the next divider kicks in. I may be wrong on this, but it definitely sounds like the PCI bus is out of whack.

Also, 2450 mhz isn't exactly bad. Overlocking is always luck of the draw and you might have just gotten a dud if you want to call it that. You also didn't mention whether your chip is a Newcastle or Winchester. The Newcastles often top out just north of 2.4 ghz so that could be the case as well.

I posted this in your Artic Freezer 64 thread...

There's many things that can affect the booting of a system that's OC'd, so we'll start with the basics. A 3500+ can go far past 2.45ghz.

1. HTT! Remember, if you change your FSB, you must change the HTT multiplier accordingly. Make sure that your total HTT (HTT muliplier x FSB) stays under 1000. For the 3500+, it should be 200FSB x 5HTT. If you change the 200 to 220, lower your HTT to 4x. If you go up to over 250, lower it to 3x.

2. Ram. Make sure your ram can run at the speeds you have it set to run at. Since you have PC3200 ram (which runs at 200FSB), you'll need to OC the ram to get it to run at, say, 240FSB or whatever your CPU is set to. OC your ram by upping the voltage (you can go safely up to 2.85v on all ram), loosening the timings, or setting the memory frequency to 166mhz, or 5:6.

3. Voltages. Probably not the case (even a CPU volted low will still boot most of the time), but it doesn't hurt to check. Up the voltage (slowly as you up the mhz-age) but don't go over 1.6v. Also, some motherboards (I don't know about yours) tend to undervolt, so put the overvid to use (for example, 1.4v @ 8.3% overvid will give you about 1.5v-ish). Toy around with the voltage a bit, just don't go too high.

I had to set my CPU voltage to a minimum of 1.6 before it would go past 230 FSB on my 3500.

Herez what ur settings should be,, Voltage around 1.55 to 1.58 would be fine, USE 8X multiplier, 325 LTD(FSB), Ram VOltage should be round 2.6 to 2.7, And change your Ram multi to 2/3. It should be about optimal at round that, GOOD LUCK

But if YOU REALLY REALLY want that ram up (Which i don't think will make ANY Difference) you can get it to DDR 466 with tight timingz still, any higher u'd need to loosen, which i think iz gay.
