Why can't I O/C my T-bird 800 anymore? Not a heat prob.

Sigh...

Ok. I spent a sh!tload of cash to get Arctic Silver, an FOP 38, HX08, and a 120mm YS-Tech fan. So I install everything and start overlocking. I got my T-bird 800 on my Asus A7V up to 950 EASILY. Using Asus Probe the idle temp is 33/91 degrees celsius at 950 MHz.

I can't go a damn megahertz higher! I get "windows protection fault" screen or it boots to windows and freezes. What's up? My Voltage is maxed without the voltage mod (1.85). I'm a bit frustrated. I've seen people get much higher with much less cooling gear (and higher temps).

Do I have a bum CPU?

Any help or simple tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hmm..yeah i have seen some people go higher than that. what kind of ram are you running? maybe you have some PCI cards that cant handle the extra speed..check out your cards too. usually though, its ram related.

have u tried the fsb @ 101mhz or 103? to get a few more mhz?

ive experianced that the 800's are one of the week performers. ive probably dont like 100 oced tbirds. Yea, the 800's were weak. but try raising the fsb if u haven't.

Try dropping the voltage, sometimes they'll run better. I have a Duron 800@1000, but it wasn't stable till I lowered it.

Lowering voltage? That's something I haven't heard of. I thought the higher the voltage the better. Lots of people are doing the A7V voltage mod to get 2.2 and above.

I'll try it and see. Thanks

Well, I tried it the highest setting first, because that's what I thought too. But it wouldn't run stably until I lowered it, I was thinking that might help if it was getting too hot. It didn't change my temp readings, but it's running great now!
