Why cant i format my 80gb hd?

it wont format it with a quick format, and a normal way, goes all the way to the end then says cannot complete format. Why is this?

what program you using? FDISK? You need the FDISK with 60gb+ support to format 60gb+ drives.

iwas using windows xp (i have 2 hd's) and then i tried command prompt format c: and neither worked

Do a low level format. You can usually get a program from the drives manufacturer to do it.
