Why can't I connect to the internet?

I have a DSL connection and have no problem getting out to the internet. But, when I install my Belkin wireless router, I can't get out even though the set-up utility says I'm connected.

Also, I'm unable to ping the gateway IP and when I try to enter the the gateway IP into the router I get an error message (illegal IP).

I've called Belkin multiple times and they can't figure it out.

Any ideas?

Need more information. Did you connect the wireless router to a pc to configure it? Also when you were trying to configure the router were you connected via an wireless nic or did you have an ethernet cable to make the connection?

i dont have a wireless network, but did you set the wireless nic info, like SSID, WEP keys of the router, etc?

The router is wired to the computer through a NIC. I have two other computers that connect to the router with wireless USB adapters.

When setting up the router, you might have it use DHCP, and then have the computer that is connected to it use the default ip for the router as the gateway. ie, if the router's internal default ip is 192.168.1.1 then setup the computer to use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway. Also if you have DHCP turned on internally you will have to set your computer up to use dhcp, if it's turned off then just assign it an ip of 192.168.1.2 or something in that range.

Hope this helps!
