The title says it all!!... Its greyed out.. I can't change the domain or the workgroup and I need to. I did an upgrade from win98 and it was inputed before but did not save the changes and I cannot get onto the network anymore.. why is it doing this? how can I fix this? anyone??

Hmm strange, only thing I can think of is make sure you have clients for microsoft networks installed on your nic.

I believe I set myself as the admin but I am not sure.. I am not too good with win2k yet, I am really not sure, I don't know though, I can't set my domain or anything. it's weird!
I need to change mainly the workgroup but it's all greyed out.. quite weird...
I dunno what to do.

You can right click on My Computer to do this, and click on the network tab. There you will see the option to change your workgroup, domain etc, and user name. Make sure you are logged in as ddmin, if not reboot and to log in as admin.

(I will log in to Win2k to make sure, hold on.)

Ok, yes you can do it the way I said. Just right click on my computer and click the network identification tab. You will be able to change your workgroup, user name, domain, DNS etc.

So I have to login as admin? I don't remember setting up an admin account so what is the deal? I just type in admin? obviously there should be no password I would imagine..

I just tried loggin in as admin. It said I could not login for whatever reason, I logged in as myself and I went to users, I am an administrator on this comp. There is also a login for "administrator" but it did not work for some reason the first time, I have no idea what is going on with this!

yield, Win2K's default Administrator user should be named Administrator, unless you renamed it. It will also have a password that you MUST supply when you log on. It could be that the Administrator password was set to just blank since you upgraded from Win98. I've never upgraded Win2K from Win98, so I don't know what it does. If you install Win2K from scratch, it will ask you to type in what you want the Administrator password to be. Try logging in with user Administrator and a blank password.

Thank you kyoshozx! It WAS because Client for Microsoft Networks was not installed, right after I added it, without even restarting I was able to change the settings, thank you!, much appreciated Anandtechers help!
