Why can't i burn any DVD's?

CletusTheDwarf

Senior member
I have a NEC ND-2510A DVD-RW drive. I can burn CDs fine, but every attempt at burning a dvd stops about 10 seconds in an ruins the dvd. I've tried burning with nero as well as alcohol 120%. I've attached the log file produced by nero to see if it helps anyone.

First of all, you didn't say what you are trying to burn onto the DVD, so my
comment may not apply.

The Nero log says you have enabled .. Disc at once....
I would suggest you disable Disc at once and try "Track at once" (I believe that's the other option.)

It worked for me when I was trying to burn TV shows using Nero......

did you remove copyrights (if they were there). Try burning a bunch of regular, non-protected files and see if that works.

track at once isn't an option, it's greyed out. I also tried just burning some regular files, but that did the same thing. any other suggestions?

what do you recomend i google for? it seems like a pretty generic problem, no real keywords

sorry I seen some stuff about this while trying to search for a Firmware update for my drive, I'd try videohelp.com

Did you pick DVD on the TAB and then DATA disc ?

Maybe it's on CDR ?

one poster here in GH fixed his prob by changing mode to PIO 4, since some drives cant utilize DMA. especially if 80 conductor cable used. To flip it around, using an 80 conductor instead of 40 cable might fix things.

disable HIMAT if using XP SP2

you never said whether this is a new DVD for your system or if it ever worked with DVD's

When installing Nero, it usually asks if you want the later aspi Win32aspi installed, and you should say yes.

You could also try cleaning your filters

Edit: You could alwqys try good old hacked firmware (like to get rid of riplock)

A guy I know had almost the same troubles with NERO it was an older 4 X DVD Writer and Nero not Express I think he use CLONE DVD and that worked for movies and I think he switched to Nero Express and it helped.

i already updated my firmware, and it's definitley on dvd data disc mode. I've also tried non-cheap media, no difference.

I have this problems too, try modified firmware with RPC1 and rip lock removed.
These are the things that f88ks up your burning process on most cheap media or any media for that matter.

25x0_2.F9_RPC+RL.rar NEC ND-25x0A 2.F9 with RPC1 and Riplock removed
This one works great.

No problems burning so far, with this stock firmware it keep failing to burn everytime

Cletus,

From your file it looks as if you are running an nForce MB.
Also it looks like you are using the nVidia SW-IDE drivers for the IDE controllers.
Try rolling the drivers back to the standard M$ ones and see if it helps.

Let us know.
